Socialist activists, behind the environmentalist facade, have taken aim at a residential and tourism development at the entrance to Old San Juan, Puerto Rico. A beautiful waterfront resort in an area that has already been developed for over 60 years.

Like the Vieques fiasco some years ago, leftist organizations have adopted this "cause" as their latest political football. Ironically, labor organizations are backing the leftists up, while turning their backs to the project workers.
The project workers have already staged several demonstrations against the socialist activists that have been trying to block access to the construction grounds. But since our Democrat governor depends on the leftist fringe to keep him in power, he has caved in and has ordered the project halted without due process. The developer has already obtained all the necessary permits for the project. He bought the land from Hilton International, who in turned had bought the land from the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, who started developing the area in the 50's. Opponents of the project claim that the permits were fraudelently obtained and that the project invades public lands, claims which have already been strucked down by the courts.
Not satisfied by established law and order, the leftists have kept the pressure on the governor who finally caved in last week.
Alarmed by the highly dangerous decision by the governor, construction, financial, tourism and service industries organizations yesterday called on a march on the Governor's Mansion today. Many shuttered their businesses to allow their workers to attend.
This morning I witnessed dozens if not hundred of buses and other vehicles driving into the old city carrying workers to the counter-protest. The police has estimated the crowd at 15,000, as stated in the article.
In an example of poetic justice, in their way to Old San Juan, the workers had to drive past the socialist protest camp that sits in a median outside the project. The socialists were visible upset as thousands of workers drove past them shouting slogans such as "communists!" (a real insult here), "get a job", "go take a bath", "let us work". Well, you get the idea.
Thanks for that report.
The signs read:
“First Vieques, now Paseo Caribe, then what?”
“Construction workers also vote in elections”
“We need jobs”
“Governor: defend our jobs”
“We want progress for all”
“The future of Puerto Rico is in danger”
I think that the situation in Venezuela has FINALLY awoken the people to this communist danger.
Could you please correct the title:
agains = against
Thanks,

Socialism helps the very poor for a short time. Then it reduces everyone (except an elite) to abject poverty and makes everyone (except the elite) miserable.
Socialist activists are everywhere, looking for a “cause” to stir up social unrest and destabilize the civil order.
The commies would be happy to see Old San Juan look more like modern-day Havana.
I hear you.
That’s what happens when you elect a Democrat. They need to remember this and vote Republican next time...
I am so, so glad to see Puerto Ricans finally standing up to the communists’ shenanigans. If the planning and development of Paseo Caribe went “by the book”, so be it. And, as Christ said, the laborer is worth his wages.
Labor unions defending ideology rather than the workers....no surprise there.
