(CNSNews.com) - The House passed a large omnibus spending bill late Monday that included a provision which some conservatives say would "gut" plans to build a fence along the U.S.-Mexico border.
The provision would eliminate requirements for a double fence...[and] is going to make it easier for drug and human smugglers to cross our Southern land border," said Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-Calif.) in a statement.

Our electees are ignoring our wishes, scuttling funding for the border-fence that the overwhelming percentage of Americans want. We need a grassroots, across-party-lines movement to get the fence built ; we did it, effectively, for Dubai : Washington paid attention. The internet would be a powerful tool, and if talk-show hosts urge American response to this outrage perhaps we can do it again. Then we need to post the names of all those who voted for this spending bill and, if our security means anything to us, we have to vote them OUT.

At this point it appears that threats to vote them out only results in lots of lying at election time. Recalls are what is needed.

The Business Conservatives have themselves another little victory. It’s going to cost them.

Thompson spoke against the effort to weaken the fence already.
He needs to get in the news blasting this run-around by Congress.

I agree despite the fact that Hunter was warning us about this the day before yesterday. At least Thompson can get the press and getting the word out is more important than who gets the credit at this point.

Oh come on, this bill is a victory for conservatives. Everyone is slapping Bush on the back. Why he’s the man, the man from Texas that kicks butt and doesn’t take prisoners...
...unless you consider the U.S. a sort of prison of sorts where citizens are the easy prey of those El Presidente continues to allow to flood across our borders.
Vive El Presidente...
...the nation, not so much.

Once more the Republicans never miss an opportunity to miss an opportunity.
The Republicans were on their way to a possible turn-around in their fortunes in the 2008 elections by taking a stand against amnesty and open borders while the Democrats were pandering to the illegals and their facilitators.
It was manifestly evident where the public was on the issue, and what the electoral benefits would be as immigration was becoming the key issue in next year’s campaign.
So who was it that gut the border fence? Border state Republicans put these changes in the bill, and the Democrats were more than willing to approve them and reap the benefits of millions of more illegal aliens about to become Democrat voters. Cornyn and Hutchinson, McCain and Kolbe, they just can’t give up on open borders and Chamber of Commerce cheap labor.
I was starting to have a little hope for next year.
Not now - RINO kool-aid drinkers are back in charge.

I was lambasted for making the statement last year but last night I saw the validity of my thought.
The fence does little good. The fence is a waste. In an extensive piece last night showing the Border Patrol literally doing battle with the aliens, there was a shot of a very high fence with ladders and a steady stream crossing the fence with impunity.
A fence to be effective must be guarded with death. Death is the only effective fence

But all the other threads are crowing about what a great victory for us this bill is! How could this be? Could it be that the globalists have sold us out yet again?
