The Impending Thompson Surge - Shake-Up Coming!
Capitol Hill ^ | December 20, 2007 | JB Williams

Posted on 12/20/2007 8:02:17 AM PST by PlainOleAmerican

Running 5th with only 11.3% support nationally, can Thompson really win the RNC nomination and if so, how?

(snip)

The question is this - will social conservatives continue to hold their ground? If they do, Thompson wins.

(snip)

In the end, a Two Man Race

I predict that the Republican race will ultimately narrow to only a two man race between Fred Thompson and Mitt Romney. Romney “looks” Presidential. But Thompson “is” Presidential. That’s not only my opinion, it’s a fact…

Romney calls himself a conservative, but Thompson is a conservative. This is also fact, not opinion.

So, if conservatives are working to nominate the most Presidential conservative in the Republican race, Thompson is the likely winner.

Can it happen? Thompson seems to be counting on it!

Watch Iowa closely…

I am planning to attend Tancredo’s announcement if I can get away at 2:00.

Give us a first hand account/update when you get back if you can....... The press conference may be nothing more than an annoucement of getting out of the race but I have to think it includes something else because of it being done in Iowa.

Have you heard of any other candidate[s] scheduled to be in the area today?....

13 Days and Iowa begins the selection process. Tough shot for those down there below 5%.....

I give Fred nothing but tough love...I still want him to somehow be the one, but...(knew it was comin, right?) I just don’t see it happening. I don’t come to this stuff lightly. Last night I watched him on CSPAN, at a Days Inn in Iowa, and a gun shop. He’s sooooo slow. Every other word is uuuuuuh. He has good positions, but the prez job is about presentation/communication as much as anything else. He needs to get hopped up on goofy pills or something. I just don’t see it happening for Fred. Has he ever led a single poll? Anywhere?

Considering the FACT that most Republican primary voters are still undecided, just about anything can happen.

Speaking of himself pissant writes, This guy is telling alot of “facts” that are his opinions. Pulling it right out of his bung hole.

Finally a little honesty from pissant. But what did you think of the article?

good question. I don’t think there is a perfect candidate or “real conservative” in strict sense.
None of the candidates is an ideal one from conservative point of view. Each of them have their flaws and weaknesses and questionable record.

I liked the first fact, Thompson is running 5th with only 11.3% support nationally. Thats a fact not an opinion.

Actually, that IS an opinion. It's the opinion of the people polled. That being said. Polls can be wrong. Let's hope the polls do lag behind a Fred surge.

Has he ever led a single poll? Anywhere?

Until the "huckaboom" he was leading Rasmussen national polls (sometimes alternating with Giuliani) and was the leader in South Carolina.

He'll be #1 again when it matters -- when people cast their votes.

Here’s a real news-flash for ya...

You’re “expert” opinion is nothing more than regurgitation of leftwing media talking points... You didn’t say anything there that the leftwing press hasn’t been promoting for a year now.

Fortunately, you and the press are about to be proven wrong...LOL

The scenario sounds great.

Conservatives unite behind one candidate and work to beat back the GOP`s liberals and moderates. Rooty, Romney and Huckabee are left in the dust. I like it.

GO FRED GO!!!

“Have you heard of any other candidate[s] scheduled to be in the area today?....’

Not really, other than they are all here all the time.
If I knew how to post a picture, I would take one with my cell phone camera and post here.

I have heard that the Paul people are bringing in many college kids from around the country.
I am somewhat concerned they will try to disrupt things on Jan 3rd.
Again I haven’t heard anything, just a guess.

The MSM template is to ignore thompson.

No coverage.

In NH kookpaul polls higher.

Now if Iowa and NH go two different ways, then SC becomes a possibility.

Until the "huckaboom" he was leading Rasmussen national polls (sometimes alternating with Giuliani) and was the leader in South Carolina.

I don't think this is true. Before he announced and people got to know him personally and his policies he was in some national polls tied with Guliani (maybe even leading by 1 or so but generally speaking tied). In SC he was also in some polls tied with Romney but once people got to know him, his numbers went down.

See SC chart here. He was briefly tied with Romney in late summer (see green line): SC primary

So, he was considered but in the end, people did not like him.
