The Israeli army killed four Palestinian fighters in the central Gaza Strip on Thursday, Palestinian medics said. "Four Palestinians were killed east of the Maghazi refugee camp, and after the ambulances removed the bodies the army opened fire on the ambulances," said Muawiya Abu Hassanein, director of emergency services in Gaza.
Three of those killed were members of the Al-Quds Brigades, the armed wing of the Islamic Jihad movement, and the other was a member of the Popular Resistance Committees. The Israeli army confirmed an operation in the area, which Palestinian medics said started in the early morning hours.
Meanwhile, in a statement released to local media the armed wing of Hamas claimed to have launched 21 mortars at Israeli troops involved in the Maghazi operation.
