I guess not, and Buchanan lost it long ago anyway. Was Truman even running in 1952?

He must’ve been floating the notion, just as LBJ was in ‘68, but both were just simply too unpopular by then. Truman never forgave Ike for turning down his offer to be the Dem nominee and badmouthed him for the next 20 years. The irony is that Ike’s failure to do much work for the GOP resulted in the Democrat control of Congress for 40 years and JFK’s fradulent election in ‘60.

Kefauver did defeat Truman in the NH democratic primary in 1952 19,800 to 15,900 [approx. numbers]. Afterwards Truman issued a statement that he would not seek a 3rd term.
