University mandates 'Merry ------mas' as holiday greeting

A Midwestern university has mandated "Merry -----mas" as a holiday greeting, banning "Christ" in apparent violation of the U.S. Constitution, according to Liberty Counsel, which works to advance religious freedom and the traditional family.

The events have developed at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford, Okla.

The controversy began when the university's director of human resources recently visited various departments and said that decorations featuring the word 'Christmas' in any areas of the university must be immediately removed," the organization said. "He also instructed the employees not to say 'Christmas' while on the job. As a result the employees cannot respond 'Merry Christmas' to other employees or visitors to the University."

University President John M. Hays denied the school "has a policy" that employees cannot say "Merry Christmas," but admitted that a "supervisor" may have given instructions regarding holiday wording.

He blamed it on "an attempt to be respectful of the diverse religious population at Southwestern Oklahoma State University."

That effort, he said, "has been misinterpreted as an attempt to ban Christmas on the Weatherford campus. ... The university attempted to prevent the appearance as a state agency of endorsing any particular religion."

He said employees may be "asked in some offices to be careful about what they put up." And he suggested that a supervisor, for example, may tell employees they could not put a "pornographic material," or erect a monument to "Wicca."

But Mathew D. Staver, founder and chief of Liberty Counsel, said the circumstances were documented before the organization raised the issue, sending the school a letter suggesting an immediate abandonment of such a policy.

Oh, give me a freakin' break. And this...

He said employees may be "asked in some offices to be careful about what they put up." And he suggested that a supervisor, for example, may tell employees they could not put a "pornographic material," or erect a monument to "Wicca."

This lame attempt at a "comparison" is just reprehensible. Sick.

Lol. Do they even realize how silly they look? What do they do if they have a student whose name is Christian? Or Christine? I met a woman named Christmas once. Will they refuse to spell or say the first part of their names?

I’ve noticed a lot more employees in the stores saying Merry Christmas this year.

It’s a federal holiday. To be consistent, we should henceforth outlaw the mention of all other federal holidays. On pain of 200 lashes from the Taliban, who should be hired from Afghanistan and brought in installed in top leadership positions in all the major cities in our country (depending on how many Taliban there are).

The Taliban can put programs into place in which our own local cops can be trained to wander the streets of America and watch out for violations of the Moral Order, especially the use of certain Islam-offending images and terminology.

All women in America, of course, should henceforth completely cover their faces and bodies.

We must be fair. This is the only way for us to proceed as a nation Devoted to Diversity.

“an attempt to be respectful of the diverse religious population”

Then shouldn’t there be a ban on the use of the term Allah, Mohamed, Buddha, etc?

This guy is the typical educrat retard the ed schools churn out. He prolly has a doctorate in idiocy and politically correct verbiage......  NYC is diverse. Oklahoma is not diverse except maybe as far as illegal immigrants and they are Christian Hispanics. There are few Jews and Muslims in OK

No no no PM! That would violate the socialist line of diversity!

Or "Eid Mubarak." It's Eid al Adha right now. ;-)

I'd go around saying "Merry Christmas" and pretty much dare them to do anything about it. LOL

One of the local OKC TV stations - Channel 9 had this story on last night. It is false. Thy had statements from university officials and the attorney general. Both said the story is absolutely false and they are trying to track down the source.

Nice, dude! You're now lumping Christmas in with pornography and paganism. Nice.

I don't think that the story is false at all, based on the above statements of the university president, and the thread I saw last night with more details, including specific names of employees who complained about the Human Resource officer who was playing Grinch. See here for the details.

It sounds to me like that both the AG's office and the university have stirred up a real hornets nest and are spinning for all its worth to make the problem they inflicted on themselves go away.

I’ve noticed a lot more employees in the stores saying Merry Christmas this year.

I've noticed that cashiers won't initiate it but will return it with enthusiasm if you say it to them. My wife's place of employment is an exception.

She works in a Bible store.
