“It makes sense as a lot of Huckabee’s support came from Thompson originally, so it stands to reason some of that soft support could come back.”

I’m hoping Huck keeps on whining about the way he’s been treated for a few more days.

Meanwhile, Fred picks up the “stop being a crybaby” voters.

Hillary fears Romney and Thompson the most.
That is why Hillary is feeding all these anti-Mormon stories to the MSM. They desperately want him to crash in the first cauci. This is also why they are trying their hardest to ignore Thompson, to treat him as a non-event.

If Rudy has a poor showing in New Hampshire his chances of winning the nomination are just about over. He is unlikely to win Iowa and South Carolina. If he can not win in New Hampshire, other than the winner take all States of New York, Connecticut and Delaware, where else can he win.

I agree! As a Baptist, I am always impressed with how family oriented the Mormons are. I think Romneys maturing process has brought him to the point of being a rock solid conservative on the social issues and will also be solid on conservative fiscal issues. I am really hoping Fred gets some traction soon and would love to see a Fred/Mitt ticket with either at the top!

OH My mind is completely open. There is only one candidate left in the top tier (sorry Hunter and Paul) that I absolutely do not want to support. But no matter who the candidate is, I will support them 100% with time and money, and of course my vote.

I will do everything in my power to keep the appeasers (Dems) out of the White House. They scare me. I remember the last "appeaser" in Chief, Carter, and I do not think our Country can survive with someone who just wants to "dialogue" with TERRORISTS.

Don’t hold back, now.

LOL.

I hate to call Mitt a liar, but I do have to admit the evidence sure makes it look that way. He’s sudden, diametric, change from passionate positions (e.g., extremely strong pro-gay and pro-abortion — Mitt Romney SAID ON VIDEOTAPE he was MORE LIBERAL than Ted Kenndy!) to conservative is just unbelievable.

Without some huge change -— death, birth, divorce, accepting Christ, hitting bottom alcoholic -— something -— adults just don’t have that huge of a belief-system swing.

I know you’re funnin’ everyone, but really, I’d say it’s more of a mixed bag than you imply. No, Thompson is not horrible, but he’s far from being a thorougly consistent conservative. Romney actually has a better record on illegal immigration.

That said, I wouldn’t mind seeing Thompson win the nomination, due to Romney’s lack of credibility on a number of other issues.

However, this poll aside, Thompson has been going the wrong way in the polls.

What I have started to wonder is if Thompson doesn’t get the nomination, what are FReepers going to do? What if the field comes down to Romney, Giuliani, McCain or Huckabee?

Is everyone going third party? I get that impression, given the attitude towards Romney.

FWIW, at this point, I will only go third party if the nominee is Giuliani.

It would be an interesting FR poll, anyhow.

It will be interesting.

As far as I am concerned, I will back Romney if need be, but I will watch him like a hawk for 4 years.

I fear that if Fred is knocked out it will be Huck or Rudy though.

If Fred doesn’t make it, I think Romney will be the nominee.

It comes down to money and organization: the two things Romney has a lot of. And, he’s probably just conservative enough not to overly antagonize the base.

He will beat Hillary, and will be a continuation of the Bush machine, for the most part: big government “conservatism.”

Furthermore, if he gets the nomination, part of the reason he will win the general...maybe most of the reason...will be his looks. He looks like a guy that would play the president on a TV show. Sad commentary on our nation, but true, I think. There are a lot of people voting who probably ought not to be doing so.

That is possible, but I don’t think Mitt will make it. If it was all about money, it should be over now. He has out spent everyone by significant amounts, but is still having issues.

I fear that if Fred falls and Mitt has not done as well as one would think, it will fall to the others.

That being said, Istill have a lot of faith in Fred. When it comes to him, polls don’t seem to mean much.

4. Do you favor a withdrawal of all United States military from Iraq within the next six months? (Republicans Only)
Yes 49%
No 39%
Undecided 12%

“Wow.”

Wonder what the reply would be for this question:
Do you favor the US keeping a military base in Iraq to maintain peace like is done in other countries?

I believe it is necessary for us to maintain a base in Iraq even after peace is established throughout the country.

Why waste mental energy on “what ifs”. Decisions are made when they have to me made. Let’s get behind Fred now so he wins the nomination and we don’t have to worry about what we’ll do if does not win.

Seriously, if you want something, work to make it happen. It’s not too late and now is the time.

If you want to help, you can make calls into Iowa from your own home. [see fred08.com]
Send whatever money you can. Campaigns are expensive.
Talk up Fred to everyone you know.

Mitt may have the “greatest organization” but he’s GOT to be organized in order to keep track of all his flip-flops.

I'm going to laugh my ass off when Ron Paul's minions flood into NH and vote in their open primary, handing NH to Paul and invalidating the state.

I've suspected for months that Ron Paul might have a strong showing in NH, even without an open primary. With the scenario you describe, now I want him to win it outright... :)

IIRC, Michigan is also open, and the Democratic primary there is now worthless, so I expect another huge showing for him there as well.
