A Farewell From Luke Skyfreeper (vanity, opus)
Luke Skyfreeper | December 22, 2007 | Luke Skyfreeper

Posted on 12/21/2007 11:41:53 PM PST by Luke Skyfreeper

This is to say FaRewell, FRiends; at least for a time.

But I expect this to be a pretty extended time.

Thanks for the fun, thanks for all the laughs, thanks for putting up with me.

So why am I "going?" I am signing off in order to be able to devote my full time and attention to the achievement of certain important personal goals. Unfortunately, there don't seem to be enough hours in the day to be able to really do the other things I need to do, and freep too.

Again, I expect this to be an extended time. I expect to be gone for at least two years. Possibly forever, but at least two years.

Now if I should succeed in achieving not only my initial goals, but my larger goals as well within the next two years, then I suppose it's possible that I might be back a bit sooner. But as far as I can tell, I would have to meet with extraordinary good fortune to accomplish both sets of goals.

This, incidentally, is the essence of conservatism: Accepting responsibility and going out and taking the action necessary to make my own life better -- as well as the lives of other people too.

This will be my last public post for a long, long time. Perhaps we will meet again, somewhere beyond January 1st, 2010.

It's been fun, and perhaps will be again.

May the road rise to meet you
May the wind be always at your back
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
The rains fall soft upon your fields
And until we meet again
May God hold you in the hollow of His hand.

"I don’t understand dramatic exits from internet websites. Am I missing something?"

After a few years 'talking' with a bunch of people via keyboard it doesn't seem too very odd that someone would want to say 'so long' when departing.

And best of luck to Luke...

You're gonna miss the election circus!

Good luck with your new effort, I hope you make it pay off...

Cool way to opus: an Irish blessing. The few times I’ve seen your FR screenname, I’ve always chuckled because it was an imaginative choice. Best wishes.

Let go Luke. Use the force. Feel it flowing through you.

There is a strong force in this one.

All the best.

Regarding personal goals.... serendipity rules.

You can strive and strive and the desired goal will still be just beyond your grasp. Something totally off the wall will happen that might be bad but more likely good. The old ways will be swept away in the total rush of the wonderful new that unimaginably came about.

I feel completely let down. Where's the whining? The pathos? The screamed assertions that FR is "just not what it used to be"? Come now, you can do a much better job on an Opus than that! I know you have it in you. Now, get right back to your keyboard and do it right!

On a more serious note, good luck with whatever it is that you feel you need to do. May the Lord bless your endevour, and send you back here soon.

Two years is a long time, Luke. I found being a love slave to a stable of supermodels got boring after only about six months. Well, don't say I didn't warn you.

Best of luck! ;-)

Gee, how hard is it to just pop in here for a few minutes a week or so? It will be hard to stay away during this election year.

Are your goals to save the gorillas in Africa or something?

Good luck to you.
