And the Iraqis are going to be our friends. They named a street in Baghdad George W. Bush Street. We'll start demobilizing next year because you can't leave an active military around with nothing to do. They will find things to do. Like get married and various other things.

A Treaty and Status of Forces Agreement will be negotiated next year. Country-to-country.

Good things will happen next year. Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas, JH2. I haven’t seen another car in Michigan with a Bush/Cheney 04 bumper sticker on in 4-6 months. In fact I haven’t seen any Kerry bumper stickers on either.

I might be the last guy in the state with a sticker on my car (I was mad enough to take it off during the “comprehensive” debate, but when that went down in flames I left it on).

I’d vote for a third GWB term over every top-tier candidate in the field right now, without a moment’s hesitation.

Sorry to see him go... but thankful we had him for the eight years we did. He’s a good man. Possibly a great one.

President Bush: a good man, a good President - perhaps even a great President. Time will tell.

And at the core from which everything comes: a man of great Faith.

FDR had a media that wouldn't even tell the people that he couldn't walk, much less that he was having a affair in the White House. Plus, FDR (wrongly) had a lot more latitude - can you imagine our President putting muslims in a concentration camp?

WOW.

What an intelligent example of clear-thinking, and historical perspective.

Best post I've read on FR in ages.

I know Reagan faced similar difficulties

I love Reagan, as any thinking American does, but he never faced anything like what Bush faces, at home or abroad. The closest thing would be Lebanon, from which he retreated after taking our troops' bullets away, and illegal immigration, for which he got maybe.5% of the static Bush is getting--and Reagan signed an amnesty into law.

Reagan was the Michael Jordan of Presidents--his natural abilities often distracted from his hard work and deep thinking--but Bush is the Larry Bird of Presidents--not as graceful, but maybe even more hard-working, and without as much support from his team and fans.
