Yes, there is definitely a whiff of Elmer Gantry. I thought that the first time I saw him.

Imagine the waves of corruption that Huckabee must've had to face from Lasater-Clinton-experienced Arkansas state government contractors looking to continue their method of greasing palms and kickbacks!
Imagine the Fahmy Malak-types looking to do their governor (or then-current resident) continued favors!

Link to Seaton's blog. Which is so full of expatriate anti-American crap that it's actually kinda comical.
Leave it to the New York Times, though, to take him seriously.

Uh...haven't gotten further into the thread, but I'm surprised nobody's made the point that Huckabee would grab a tremendous amount of vote from the Dems and indees. If what he's saying has any reach.
Like Ronald Reagan achieved with the Blue Dogs.
They can be known as Red Razors. The Dems can cry, "Don't raze me bro'!"

Uh...scuse me? The demonrats already HAD their Huckabee. Hes named Bill Clinton. That's the point of the article, I would imagine. The Dems wish they had Huckabee.
And if the GOP keeps giving him grief, he could go 3rd party and scare the hell out of lot of people in here.

Why would you make that statement? Could you elaborate a bit? Comparisons...other that both Baptists.
I'm sincere in my question. Anybody?

Yep, that would be a win-win. Theyd then get either Huckster, or Hillary/Obama as president.Under that scenario it would be a WIN for us also, wouldn't it?
Or, are you suggesting that Hillary as POTUS would be better?
Thought so..... ;^)

I don’t think I’d completely agree that Huckabee is analogous to Jimmy Carter. However, there are similarities. The fact that both are overtly religious is an obvious one. And, of course, they’re both former southern governors.
But the difference is this: Carter bought into the whole leftist “liberation theology” misapplication of Christianity. That requires total leftism, even to the point of outright rejection of Biblical teachings when necessary (hence, Carter’s support for feminism, abortion, “gay” rights).
Huckabee has bought into the “compassionate conservatism” misapplication of Christianity. That makes him preferable to Carter. Huckabee doesn’t just flip the Bible upside down when it fails to conform to leftism. He’s a good guy on things like abortion and same-sex “marriage”. But he does lack common sense when applying general Biblical principles. It’s often been said that the Constitution shouldn’t be interpreted as if it’s a suicide pact. Ditto for the Bible.
Yet Huckabee has this idea that if the Bible tells us to be kind to strangers in our land, it means we shouldn’t care how many come in, whether they’re legal, or any of those other niceties. If the Bible says to help the poor, then we should cough up more cash for social programs.
That’s suicide. Huckabee would give us four more years of open borders, of boondoggles like the No Child Left Behind Act, and so forth. He would further the RINO takeover of the party.

If the Dems pick up more seats while Huckabee is POTUS, it won't be HIS fault if the fence isn't built.
And, why should he scream about it if it would hurt the GOP in the voting booth? Because that's the situation we have now.
Just remember, it's not just about votes. It's also making sure you don't taze your economy.

Thanks for your post, btw.
I have just started reading about Huckabee, but I start with distrust in the author...just like the way I read the Washington Post and watch CBS.
Words like "outrage and scorn" to describe people questioning him on accepting gifts.
Hell, $68K @ year for a family of four? And at least those meals were at KFC and Taco Bell, and not Morton's or the Four Seasons.

You think building the fence is hurtful to the GOP? How do you figure that?

No...I saying that because in my scenario, the GOP would not have the power to filibuster, why should "president" Huckabee make public statements about it not being built, if it would kill his chances as an incumbent and the GOP in general?
I want the fence built. But BOTH parties have to be publicly for it...not having the GOP painted as the enemy of Hispanics.
...because that's the way it will be portrayed, IMO.
