Mike Huckabee heads for Republican upset
The Telegraph(UK) ^ | December 21, 2007 | Alex Spillius

Mike Huckabee has stormed to frontrunner status in the race for the Republican presidential nomination, placing the former Baptist pastor in sight of one of the biggest upsets in US political history.

Preaching a socially conservative message with a smile, Mr Huckabee has overtaken or drawn level in the latest polls with his better-known and better funded rivals Rudy Giuliani, the former New York mayor, and Mitt Romney, a multi-millionaire venture capitalist and former Massachusetts governor.

In California, he has jumped from four per cent to 17 per cent in two months leaving him just eight points behind Mr Giuliani without even setting foot in the most liberal state in the union, which is the biggest prize in all the primary elections to select nominees for the 2008 presidential contest.

By his own admission, when the former Arkansas governor began campaigning in Iowa he was flattered if someone took his picture with a mobile phone.

On Mr Huckabee's current four-day blitz through the state, where he is now favourite to win the Jan 3 caucus, the venues at his campaign events overflow with supporters.

Meanwhile, Mr Giuliani, who has led from the beginning of campaigning 11 months ago, was released from hospital yesterday after being admitted with "flu-like symptoms" the previous evening.

It's fun to watch normally sane people go insane about Huckabee, and on the evening of January 3rd there will probably be sounds of heads popping on FR.

BTW, thank you Rush for your attacks on Huckabee. Huckabee graciously turned the other cheek.

Well anyway let the snide and elitist comments against Huckabee commence, including almost high school clique like comments against his family.

Unless they plan to run for the Democratic nomination, Romney and Huckabee supporters need to drop the victim mentality. I've never heard so much Republican sniveling in my life. It's embarrassing.

It's a tough world out there, boys. If you can't handle your fellow Republicans there is no way you can face the evils around this violent world.

That does it. Mandatory jumping jacks for you, Dane. Failure to comply means 6-8 weeks in fat camp, shipped there in shackles if need be.

Ah! I wanna LIVE the HUCKABEE DREAM!!!!

Eleven days, and for most of those, no one—even Iowans—will be paying attention.

Well anyway let the snide and elitist comments against Huckabee commence, including almost high school clique like comments against his family.

I've never criticized Huckabee's family, weight, or his faith, just his statist authoritarian policies FYI.

Huckabee will be broke after Iowa, he won't be able to compete in the states preceding Super Duper Tuesday anyway, much less Super Duper Tuesday itself. And he can't expand his support beyond the religious conservatives who myopically support him now. So pretty much any news about him is moot.

Oh please and whining about how Fred Thompson is the victim of the MSM instead of his campaign ineptness is not whining and sniveling.

Dane, our man, please get real. It was your man Huckabee’s people who put out the snide, diggy remarks about Rush. He responded rather graciously to insulting comments. As a Republican, I think the “Republican Jimmy Carter” is rather sad for a politician. DO YOU AGREE WITH HIS SNOTTY LITTLE ‘ARROGANT BUNKER MENTALITY’ ABOUT PRESIDENT BUSH?

Personally, I think the supporters of this man should be rather ashamed. President Bush has made the extremely tough decisions to keep us safe. BY THE WAY, DO YOU LIKE HUCKABEE’S NO WATERBOARDING AND CLOSE GITMO PLANS? Every time I find out anything new about him, I dislike and distrust him more.

So you are saying Rush also can't handle the criticism.

By the way, why would you use a Reagan tag line and support a Republican Jimmy Carter?

Thank you. Huckabee's support is pure, 100% liberal media driven. He'll have less than $5 million at the end of the 4Q, not including the campaign debts that'll likely bring his available cash down to $2 million.

He may win Iowa but that's pretty much it. There's no way NH is going to vote for him, and states such as NV, SC, WY, and FL will reject him as well.
