ANOTHER REASON TO HOMESCHOOL

This ping list is for the “other” articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. If you want on/off this list, please freepmail me. The main Homeschool Ping List by DaveLoneRanger handles the homeschool-specific articles. This is becoming a fairly high volume list.

She started staying overnight at Turley’s house in May of that year...

Yeah, I'm gonna let my 16 year old daughter spend the night with an adult of either gender. What the hell are these parents thinking?

So then at 18 she moves in with her, breaks up, and now she snitches on her about having sex when she was still a minor. I think she lost her right to complain when she willingly moved in with her as an adult. JMHO

They probably got an advance copy of the book that Britney Spears' mother wrote about being a parent.

I’m always fascinated by the Catholic school stories! The only nuns I’ve known have been nice old ladies in parish work :-).

Interesting point about the sports. My public high school (about 1,500 students) had gymnastics (for girls, but not boys) but not ice skating or swimming (for anyone). The girls’ track team was very strong.

The high school where I tutored in San Antonio had dance classes, including “ballet folklorico.”

You know what they say about a woman scorned.

May’-sa is the ONLY way I’ve ever heard it pronounced.

Umm— when I was in school we had gymnastics. I despised it, because I’m just not coordinated enough. It was required for P.E. From elementary school until freshman year of high school. In high school I took two years of dance class. At the time we also had one of the best drama departments. As for precision swimming and ice skating. My high school didn’t have a pool and Arizona is too warm for an ice skating pond.

If you go with the Me sa you sound like a Mexican. Us Gringos say Mess a. At least that is how it was done in El Paso.

Saying Mess a like that sounds like nails on a chalkboard. As annoying as saying Illinois and pronouncing the s.

There are different ways of reading this. Unless there is some forensic evidence that the two had sex before the student was 18, then the court will possibly just write it down as a “bitter breakup between two lesbians”, which is all it probably amounts to, in the absence of a parental complaint.

The teacher will have to quit teaching, but not go to prison. Maybe probation for a couple of years, with a restraining order.

Mesa was infamous for a teacher/student scandal in 1985, in which a married science teacher, Kenneth Lamberton, got 12 years for running away with a 14 year old student.

Thank you, Mr. Rogers. ;-) Another that annoys me is next door we have Tempe (where ASU lives). I have heard reporters say Tempa instead of Tempee. You would think the reporters who live here would learn to pronounce the cities they are reporting on.

My experience was different. Nuns, priests, and brothers were all saints and did their best to teach and form us.

I do wonder when the trial lawyers are going to go after the government schools like the did the Catholic Church. Here in California, they have bankrupted the dioceses going all the way back to the 1930’s to find victims and awarding them $1.4 million each. The press, the lawyers, and the courts were eager to destroy the church but never a whisper about taking on the MASSIVE scandal in the govt schools.

This wasn’t the first dance through the underage clover for the coach, just the first one in which she was caught.
Parents shouldn’t ever let their daughters play softball. That sport is the domain of the flannel shirt, extremely flat shoe crowd, from the local kids teams to the collegiate level and into adult leagues.

Mesa is pronounced - Me sa, not Mess a.

It is correctly, gringo or not, pronounced May-sa. This is the correct way to pronounce an e followed by an s-ay, two esses would then be pronounced ess as in mess. Maybe after a hard rain you might think a muddy mesa was a mess-a mud but that is about it.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Our school dabbles at these activities, but does not do it seriously. For instance, no one at our school would ever be accepted in a major university dance major. There are no competitive dance teams. Ditto for gymnastics.

If girls do excel at these activities it is because the parents paid out big bucks in private lessons. And,,,these are the girls who a later accepted in the cheerleading squads. ( My niece is an example.)

In my opinion, we force boy-sports on girls because “Dykes on Spikes” rule in the PE departments.
