In June 2006, following the death of Al Qaeda in Iraq leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, King made a satirical reference to the famous myth which claims Islam teaches that virgins in heaven await all martyrs. King joked, "There probably are not 72 virgins in the hell he's at, and if there are, they probably all look like Helen Thomas." The comment was made at the 2006 Iowa Republican State Convention, and was received with raucous laughter on the part of the several hundred delegates in attendance. Because the comment received so much attention and comment, King was reported to have called the 85-year-old veteran White House reporter to apologize.

Steve is not PC...But thats OK.

Yea, they probably saw the Freep poll numbers and thought "oh krap, FR is pulling for Fred at 75%, haven’t seen them agree that much since they killed the Amnesty Bill."

It wouldn’t have mattered with the word ‘kink’, it’s a word and is spelled right.

A DEMOCRAT would NEVER have been called to apologise for such a remark. Instead, it would be CELEBRATED as “Bold” or “Truth-Telling” by the wonks in our largely-gay MSM...

Why would someone want Romney? To give them hair care tips?

Just so happens I spent a little time guiding for Steve when he came to the Texas/Mexican border in Sept, `06. A genuinely regular guy IMO. Their were about 25 - 30 of us from all over the US, including the founder of the original Minuteman Project Jim Gilchrist. We inspected just about every mile of the border from Laredo up to Eagle Pass and they guy was pretty pizzed at how the locals had made provisions for just letting the illegals and drug smugglers pass through anywhere they pleased.

Fred Thompson Garners Support of Top Tancredo Staff

Western Iowa- Congressman Steve King today welcomed the two top staffers for former presidential candidate Tom Tancredo to the campaign of Fred Thompson. Bill Salier served Tancredo as his Iowa State Chairman and Angie Anderson served as Tancredo's Iowa Executive Director.

Salier and Anderson attended a Fred Thompson 2008 event in Sioux City where they announced their support of the former Senator's Presidential Campaign.

King commented, "Bill Salier and Angie Anderson are pillars of the conservative community in Iowa. Their work for Tom has put the Rule-of-Law and border security at center stage for this Republican primary. I am delighted that Bill and Angie have joined me to support Fred Thompson."

"Judging from the response of Bill and Angie, it's beginning to look like Fred Thompson received the endorsement of the Tancredo campaign."
