High noon in the living room

Another no-knock warrant success story It was just after midnight on Dec. 16, and Yee Moua was unwinding in her spartan north Minneapolis home, watching TV. Such moments of solitude are hard to come by when you're trying to raise six children in a crime-plagued neighborhood. Her husband, who had recently lost his job as a machine operator, and their kids were asleep.

So when one of her windows shattered, she knew it wasn't an accident. There were voices. Men were breaking into their home.

She ran upstairs. Vang Khang had already removed his shotgun from a closet and was ready to defend his family and property. They heard footsteps on the stairs.

Mr. Khang fired three blasts through his door. More than 20 shots came back at them through the walls.

Calling the police on this night would have done Ms. Moua and Mr. Khang no good. They were already there.

We mustn't allow the Fourth Amendment and all that to get in the way of police work. If innocents are inconvenienced, the logic is it still stops crime by apprehending criminals. Just give up your freedom for a little safety.

I wonder what the officers’ immediate response was? Usually in these cases it seems they leave without so much as an apology...

Don’t forget to put on the “Sarcasm” tag. Some people will take your comment seriously.

I know of a sheriff’s office that did the same, wrong address twice. I can’t recall what the end result was, but I recall that the county paid some bucks for that snafu.
From reading the editorial, I’m shocked that the cops can get a no knock warrant based on a complaint of a threat.

I wonder what the officer's immediate response was?"

If they followed protocol, it was; Shoot the dog; cuff the perps; scare crap outta kids; trash the joint; leave in a huff without showing warrant.

Followed by statement on TV from State's Attorney about how such raids are necessary for our safety.

What's truly suprising is that the cops didn't kill the entire family.

They're fortunate the FBI wasn't called in to 'negotiate' an end to this. The entire family would have been gassed and burned to death.

Merry Christmas!

Not long before all the cop-lovers chime in stating how hard it is to write folks $160.00 tickets for going 28 in a 25.

Thank you Drug Prohibition. These police raids have come about as a direct result of the illegalization of drugs. Drug Prohibition is funding the Taliban, Castro, FARC, MS-13, Bloods, Crips, etc. You can have as much crime and violence as you want, just continue the war on (some) drugs.

"Load up with steel core or A/P ammo."

Yep. That stuff will go through walls and everything, killing your own children as they lie in their beds.

Ah, wait. You don't have kids I bet. OK. That stuff will go through walls and everything, killing your neighbor's children as they lie in their beds.

But you'll be safe, thank God.

"Thank you Drug Prohibition."

This had nothing whatsoever to do with drugs.

“For nearly a week, the department refused to release the search warrant used to justify the assault. On Friday, authorities finally made the document public. Police smashed through the family’s windows to investigate what amounted to a domestic violence complaint.

“A woman who had previously served as a police informant told police her boyfriend, whom she alleged was a gang member, had threatened her at the address. She believed there were guns in the basement.”
