if you think that Fred Thompson is a liberal you really need some help. And a man needs a bit more than good oratory skills and a decent heart to be president. Right now I believe Alan should be getting behind Fred or Hunter rather than thinking he has some corner on conservative truth.

Alan made it abundantly clear in the Des Moines debate that he will NOT support Giuliani under any circumstances. He has also made it clear that he considers Romney a complete counterfeit. Draw your own conclusions from that.

He has not publically said who else he may or may not support.

Personally, I’ll leave the GOP if it nominates Giuliani or Romney, and take as many people with me as I can.

I haven’t decided about the others. Each of them takes positions I find to be anathema to the foundational principles we’re trying to restore, and to the Reagan platform.

I played the game with Bush in 2000 and 2004. Not too sure I care to do that again. We’ll have to see.

In the meantime, I’ll work as hard as I can to win votes for the man I think is best suited to facing the fateful challenges that await us in 2009 and beyond.

I think Hunter would be a great president but a couple of things I see has held him back. In the debates he doesn’t really sell the main conservative principals that well. He sort of gets off on details about trade and stuff that are true but he has to focus people and rally them. And him saying that the two border agents that are in jail for covering up their shooting of that illegal are heroes makes him sound like a panderer to the far right cool aid drinkers. That didn’t help at all. I wish he would have just said that they should not have been tried and just disiplined or fired and that they have an extremely hard job with our borders still open. Anyways, maybe he has clarified that since?

Is McCain-Feingold-Thompson, whose primary mover through the Congress was Senator Thompson, “conservative”?

Is a fake federalism that doesn’t even call for an end to the parts of the current federal behemoth whose authorization cannot be found in the Enumerated Powers, while at the same time ignoring the God-given, unalienable rights to life and liberty, “conservative”?

Is opposition to steps to protect the institution of marriage “conservative”?

Is a buddy-buddy attitude towards the most liberal elements of the Republican Party over his whole career “conservative”?

Is a preeminent belief in “bipartisanship” as the solution to problems “conservative”?

actually, many very conservative people argue for a return to states rights on abortion. I believe there should be a pro life ammendment but Fred maybe pragmatic and realize we need to take steps towards that. He has made some mistakes but overall his voting record proves that he is a solid conservative. What you do is judge candidates who have made some mistakes and sort of throw the baby out with the bath water. Because to call Fred a liberal is simply nutty.

I have the utmost respect for Ambassador Keyes. I voted for him in the 2000 primary.

While I still hold him in highest regard, with the possibility of liberals like Mitt Romney, Mike Huckabee, Rudy Guiliani, or John McCain getting the nomination, I can't support his candidacy and will vote for Fred Thompson.

The “states’ rights trumps unalienable rights” position is a Stephen A. Douglas Democrat, Gerald R. Ford/Howard Baker Republican, Ron Paul Libertarian position; not a Ronald Reagan Republican pro-life position. And, unfortunately, this ‘Ron Paul disease’ has spread widely throughout the GOP body politic.

Alan Keyes is only a good choice if you are an honest, clear thinking Conservative. Fickle, chowder headed Republicans are more likely to make a pragmatic decision and vote for someone with higher numbers. It’s too bad really, the first American of African descent should be more like Fredrick Douglass (Keyes) and less like Wayne Brady (Obama).

EV, no matter what candidate I end up working for, I will vote for the person best suited for the job. In other words, you can count on at least 1 vote from California.

Fred has proposed some solid reforms such as further tax reductions and has the same stand as Hunter on closing the border. He just comes across as more of a candidate that can win to me. Hunter seems to get off track in details in the debates and the way you sell your position is critical to winning.

Personally, I think his “temperament” is perfect for these times in which we live. The lukewarm are blithely leading us over a cliff.
