Fred will drop out soon after Iowa and endorse his buddy McCain.

I've thought that was the plan all along. McCain gets a big boost when he needs it the most.

Alot of conservatives don’t know who Hunter is. And he won’t be on many primary ballots, including my homestate of Arkansas. Hunter is a good man but his presidential bid is all but over. Maybe Thompson will have room for him in his cabinet :)

If Fred does that he loses all credibility. He will have shown that he was as phony as McCain.

They know Romney/McCain would absolutely smoosh sHrillary or Borako, or Obacko sHrillary -- while also allowing the GOP to sweep the legislatures.

Oh, puhleeze. I admire your enthusiasm but none of the candidates will "smoosh" the Dems this year. I'm not saying the Republican can't win, but it will be a long, hard and dirty slog all year long.

I’m still waiting for such a poll to really come out. Also, how about many polls for a majority of conservatives to vote in which lists all of the GOP Presidential candidates on all of the issues instead of just listing the top tier GOP Presidential candidates on only certain issues? We also still truly need GOP Presidential Primary debates where all of the questions and the moderators are only conservatives throughout the entire debates, and the format of these debates is truly the most acceptable to the majority of conservatives!

Don’t listen to these morons.

Fred is not going to drop out after Iowa. Those of us working for him in Iowa are going to consider placement in the top three to be a victory.

I also don’t believe these polls actually reflect the impact his campaigning over the last week or two has had. The crowds are getting bigger. Everyone that has ever heard him speak in person is highly impressed and sold on his sincerity and the fact that he has actual plans to address the issues.

Another thing that the polls can’t reflect is the rather high percentage of voters in Iowa who are still undecided.

Even though the caucus is only 9 days away, this is still very much a wide open horse race.

I agree this would make a lot of sense. I just don’t understand why GOP lets some DNC planted gayfool (Anderson Cooper) or that clueless Iowa DNC-activist to be a moderate for the most important job interview in the world.

I think Hunter is great, but in current system there is no chance that a little known congressman (with no money) can win.

It would be great if GOP could host series of debates early on (moderated perhaps by Heritage Foundation and shown on web or Fox News). These would have start early on (ie 15-18 months before general election), as fund-raising and everything depends on the early credibility. That way people like Hunter could actually get some traction (and donations) and have the ability to build national campaign organization.

Thank God for that, if he was going up I would get really concerned. Down or steady is good for Fred.

Incidentally, the ARG poll is always a bit off. Rasmussen has his numbers a bit higher, I think around 16%. I hope it’s no higher than that though. If Fred breaks 20-25% in any poll in the next week or so I think he will have issues in Iowa.

You know, you are on this "3% Club" kick.

Funny thing is that that "3% club" is a vast majority of Free Republuc.

So exactly why do you bother to join up just recently? I guess it must be fun to be a Romney mouth piece, but while he may shine among Republicans, Conservatives really are not buying the whole "Mitt Conservative" thing. I will admit he sounds good and he looks wonderful, but...

Now you may be in for a bit of good fortune since it seems "Republican" and "Conservative" are drifting further apart and with things still doing well in the economy and with the war, it is a good time for form over substance. It took a Carter to get a Reagan, and we are not there right now.

But I hold out hope that people are still serious enough after 9/11 to want a little more than just a beauty pageant in the end.

I could be wrong, but then again who knows right now. However with Fred polling "badly" I am quite optimistic....

Third?

I am still thinking second or better.

If his poll numbers tank or at least stay the same or just rise slightly, I am even more confident...

If he polls next week in the pack I may start sweating...

“Rasmussen has his numbers a bit higher, I think around 16%”

Rasmussen has Fred Thompson at 8%.

“I hope it’s no higher than that though.”
Hmm, there must be some sort of logic behind that argument, but in the real-world it does not make any sense.

I've been here since 1999. You want to try to bully me?

FR fell into a sick cesspool of FRedhead groupthink several months ago. There are several excellent candidates including Fred and Mitt. But the groupthink cesspool drowns almost very voice but the FRedheads'.

tompster76 wrote: “Fred’s only major achievement was CFR...”

And just like Mitt, you speak with forked tongue.

Fred has many major accomplishments. Here’s just a few:

He led the fight to successfully defeat S507, a Senate bill which would have destroyed our system of patent protection and handed many uniqely American technologies over to foreigners.
http://www.theconservativevoice.com/article/23891.html

He published a two volume report, “Government on the Brink,” detailing the waste, fraud, and abuse of federal agencies as well as the management challenges facing the nation. His work saved the taxpayers billions of dollars.
http://whenevilprospers.blogspot.com/2007/07/in-light-of-fred-thompsons-surging.html

He left the Senate with a record on spending that puts all of the other major candidates to shame.
http://race42008.com/2007/03/24/fiscally-fisking-the-2008-contenders

He stayed remarkably true to his federalist principles. His Senate record is replete with examples of his being the lone opponent of legislation that he thought undercut federalism. He took this position even at considerable political risk. It’s an unusual accomplishment to maintain one’s integrity after as much public service.
http://www.cato-at-liberty.org/2007/05/31/is-fred-thompson-a-small-government-conservative

He advised the man who became Chief Justice of the Supreme Court and cleared the road for him to be approved by the Senate.
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,166167,00.html

As chairman of the International Security Advisory Board, he was a trusted advisor to Secretary of State Rice for nearly two years on potential threats to the United States.
http://www.state.gov/t/isn/isab/

As a lawyer in Tennessee, he led the movement which took down a corrupt governor.
http://www.cmonitor.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20071212/FRONTPAGE/712120301/1322/NEWS97

He also served as special counsel to former Tennessee governor Lamar Alexander and special counsel to both the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and the Senate Intelligence Committee.

Why would they abate? I’m sure some people still think he’s an honest conservative, and there’s only nine days to avert a GOP disaster in Iowa.
