...ask our FReeper colleague 'expat_panama'...

My income's from the US so it gets taxed by the feds --which is why I'm not trying to get Hitlery elected like so many freepers are.  All I save on are state sales, property and income taxes.  Panamanian sales tax is 6%, and property taxes are nil.

What the heck is in Lower Texas that they want to move there.

Prosecutor: You haven't been paying your taxes.
Chicolini: Taxes. I have an uncle who lives in Taxes.
Prosecutor: No, Money. Dollars.
Chicolini: Dollars, Taxes. That's where my uncle is a-from.

"We're not far behind at 40%.". . . .Where do you get that number? The US tax burden (expressed as a % of GDP - the only real measure) is <20%. You can argue between 19.1 & 20.3%,

Another myth exposed.

I emailed this to my Danish brother-in-law. I’m interested to read what he says. He’s pretty conservative for a Dane. He votes for the Danish Peoples Party which is the party that has started cracking down on immigration. My sister and him still own a home outside Copenhagen but currently reside in Charleston.

"I emailed this to my Danish brother-in-law."

I have plenty of relatives in Denmark. The country is just too small and well established. Few opportunities for entrepreneurs. Civil service, UN and EU employment are big there.

They do celebrate the 4th of July with fireworks.

LOL! My brother-in-law tells me that every year. Actually it's "The largest 4th of July celebration outside of the USA" according to him. Supposedly because so many Danes have lived and worked in the USA. My sister and he were very popular in their town during the Summer because everybody wanted to go eat American BBQ at their house. I had to counter with the fact that Astoria, OR (where my sister and I grew up) has the largest Scandinavian festival West of Minnesota!

Yeah, but which Olga is more likely to show up at your front door?

(BTW Sharon Stone's pretty scary, too.)

We have Americans doing the same thing in many States across the USA, it is called spending more and more of the peoples money that does not approve and some that have less approving of the government spending your money

Don't forget state and local which is part of the public sector that the article references.

Look up the Growth in Population of little Virginia.

I have never seen so many people in my life living in Hampton Roads. The entire Northeast must be moving South.

Virginia will be forced to raise taxes soon just as high as the rest of the Northeast. You just see new condos and apartments being built and very few private homes.
It will not be long before all the land in the little cites has a structure sitting occupied.

The US tax burden

One more thing. We're talking about public sector consumption, which taxes usually don't cover. The government borrows the rest.

Guess yo don't pay sales tax in your state? or property tax? Or tax on utility bills, car purchase/registration, etc etc ?

I wanna live in your state...
