HUCKABEE STUMP COMMENTS ON PAKISTAN CALLED "BIZARRE" BY "TIMES OF INDIA" NEWSPAPER
Times of India ^ | 29 December 2007 | Times of India

Posted on 12/28/2007 7:02:58 PM PST by AmericanInTokyo

.....(snip) "Republican dark horse Mike Huckabee jumped into the fray with a bizarre reaction tying the developments in Pakistan to illegal immigration across the border from Mexico.

"The fact is, the immigration issue is not so much about people coming to pick lettuce and make beds.

It's about who can come with shoulder-fired missiles and do serious damage and harm to us.... the unsecured borders we have pose a real national security threat," Huckabee said, claiming more Pakistanis had come illegally to the U.S last year than any other country except "those immediately south of the border." He even had a number for that – 660.

No one offered an in depth analysis of the situation or the precise roadmap because for the longest time US foreign policy discourse among the political leadership has been focused on the Middle-East, ending with Iraq, Iran and Afghanistan, even as Pakistan was being described by knowledgeable commentators as the most dangerous country on earth, a crossroad where nuclear proliferation and jihadis meet.

Meanwhile, a President who did not even know the name of Pakistan's military general before he took office eight years ago, is struggling to work out the implications of the brutal assassination that is threatening to derail a vague roadmap his administration had engineered for the country...."

Overall I would agree with their analysis. This merits additional study and monitoring.

The "Google" and "Wikipedia" site hits on the keyword "Pakistan" from servers based in Arkansas, must be going through the ROOF this weekend.

Are there Brazillion tigers sneaking across our southern borders or something?

Heh heh. Huck makes Ron Paul seem rational.

Is he trying to get Ron Paul voters with statements like that? Surely most of those that support him wouldn't be pleased with this type of blather.

Huck is nervous now. People are watching him, critically, and the pressure is showing.

QUESTION OF THE DAY

"Governor, how many Americans have been killed on US soil by illegal immigrants coming from Mexico/Latin America since September 11, 2001, compared to those killed by those illegal aliens from Pakistan? Either by ouright murder or by negligence (drunk driving)?"

Fool would probably crack a joke, or otherwise try to weasel out of it. Sheesh.

Good lord help us.

We obviously don’t have our keenest minds running for President. I think we’re in trouble.

It seemes there are quite a few GOP candidates who have been doing and saying really stupid things lately. I think Hunter is the only one who hasn’t screwed up yet.

He was trying to deflect criticism from his ridiculous comment (apologizing for Bhutto’s assassination) by linking to illegal immigration (which he has in fact justified in the past). What an ass-hat. To quote a FReeper, “No more Dopes from Hope”.

Didn’t he mean to say that there were 666 Pakistani illegals who crossed the Mexican border?

And you know what THAT portends! Cue the scary music!

Seriously, Huckster’s big solution for the middle east is to create a Palestinian state in a 3rd nation, which will presumably volunteer for this.

It’s amazing that he’s taken seriously by anybody.

You have at least two very keen minds running for the Presidency.

1. Fred Thompson
2. Duncan Hunter

Huck didn’t say that about Bush, the Times writer did.

Anyway, who the hell did know the name of “the general” in Pakistan 8 years ago? Maybe a lot of people in India did, but not a lot of Americans, including politicians.
