The "Historical Statistics of the US" (Wonderful 5-volume set of REAL data) gives new york city murders in 1939 as 295, with the lowest in the last 98 years as 1943, with 208. (What was missing in 1943?? -- lots of vigorous young men with guns -- killin germans and Japs!).
BTW, the peak was 1990 with 2,245. BBy 1993 had fallen only a bit, to 1,946, then fell by 2/3 in only 5 years, to 633.
actually, the linked article has a chart that includes philly (down 16, or 4%) and baltimore (up 4, or 2%).
Those rates are MUCH higher than New york’s. Philly has 80% as many murders as NY with 1/4 or less of the population. Baltimore has more than half as many, with well under 1/10 the population.
FWIW, the LA Times says there were 820 homicides in LA county thru 12/16/07. The victims are shown by race, and they are overwhelmingly blacks and hispanics (shooting each other of course).

Detroit is now at 404.
Just like Bush. Now he’s leaving murderers unemployed.
Do you have any statistics to back up that claim or are you simply spewing B.S.?
