LA-1st is old Bob Livingston district. Succeeded by Vitter upon Livingston retirement. This slice of LA had been home base and electorial support for David Duke.

He did live in Metairie and the Northshore at times, but success for him in his statewide races proved to be spotty. In his gubantorial run, he lost Jefferson Parish to Edwards 59%-41% and St. Tammany 56%-41%. In his Senate run just a year prior, he did carry both parishes but not by great margins. His only electoral success was narrowly capturing a Metairie-area house seat over Treen's brother. Region-wise, Duke did better in North Louisiana than anywhere else.
