Military career
Rhodes enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1977 and worked stateside as a mechanic in Texas, achieving the rank of Airman First Class. She left the Air Force early and relocated to Ohio, where she participated in a program called Palace Chase to release her to the reserves and honorably discharge her. Although she left active duty before her contract was up, she still received an honorable discharge after completing the program

It sounds like she wasn’t very gung-ho or very good, but she is legal and a veteran. Odd that I have been unable to find the date of her discharge.

During the Carter years, there was a lot of mushy flexibility in the military and she may have a worse record than shows officially, but bottom line is that she appears able to claim full legal recognition as a veteran of the Air Force.

Al Franken, former morning host and current candidate for the U.S. Senate, has traveled to Iraq and Afghanistan numerous times during the past several years as part of the USO tour entertaining the troops . . .

How did Al Franken entertain the troops? Did they use him as a dartboard?

As we say in Texas. I’ll bet you couldn’t pour piss out of a boot with instructions on the heel.

Another Texan on the web offered a simpler opinion for Mr. Newell's plight:

"You need to grab your head by both ears and pull 'til you hear a loud POP and you can breath fresh air again."

:)

SNIP .. ..Bill Clinton is not a convicted draft dodger or perjurer. As hard as they tried to back on Dec. 19, 1998, Senate Republicans failed to garner enough support to achieve the two-thirds majority required for his conviction.

When this type of blatant falsehood is so casually stated, it destroys the validity of the piece and brands the author as a liar and/or fool.

B J CLINTON WAS CONVICTED IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, NEWLIN!!

(The Senate failed to remove him from office by a very small margin and if they would have, Algore would have been POTUS and would have probably been elected in 2000.)

This Newlin and his ilk have given Ann Coulter some very nice material with which to write best-sellers.

Thanks for the information. What you have described sounds a lot like the Expeditious Discharge Program in the mid-70’s. This was for people that could not adjust to military life or that had real attitude problems. It was also used as a way out for those looking at disciplinary sanctions (caught with relatively small amounts of pot or hash or in some cases, financial problems). Releasing them to the reserves in lieu of EDP sounds like a Carter-era program, although I am not certain when this was started being allowed. Again, thanks for the info and happy new year!

I must respectfully disagree. The House vote does not convict anyone of anything. The House voted to refer two of the four articles of impeachment to the Senate. The Senate was supposed to hold a trial but only let the House managers present a short summary of the evidence (sort of like closing arguments in a jury trial). The Senate voted along party lines and Clinton was not convicted.

However, he was found liable in a civil trial of several charges related to his impeachment and was sanctioned by the Arkansas state bar. This does not mean he is not scum of the earth, just that the House did not convict him of anything.

Randi Rhodes, the popular daytime host, is a veteran of the Air Force...

About a week ago I read something on FR regarding her joining a reserve unit, attending one drill, and then never going back. I do not know if she served any active duty time. Do any freepers have the lowdown on the military service of this seditious little lush?

By veteran of the Air Force, she meant she had spent four years hanging out by the fence of the air base.

Cheap Trick isn’t just the name of a band.

Air America seems to be lending a lot of support to Ron Paul when comparing Republican candidates.

Amazing Ron Paul wont go on with Glenn Beck but will go on the Air America Randi Rhodes Show?

“is akin to saying “I believe in Christianity but not in Christ”.”

Which would make you a Unitarian.

You are correct . . . I am mortified.

A search for 'bill clinton impeachment' on Dogpile returned a WIKI article and one from the Eagleton Institute of Politics (at Rutgers) that confirm just what you said.

My apologies to all who read my foolish outburst, especially to Greg Newlin.

Thanks for so gently setting me straight with the kind wording of your post.
