Rep. King questions Huckabee move; Thompson said he had a nice laugh By Sam Youngman | Posted: 12/31/07 6:27 PM [ET] December 31, 2007
URBANDALE, Iowa Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa), who is supporting former Sen. Fred Thompson (R-Tenn.), questioned former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabees motives in showing a negative ad to reporters after telling them that he would not put it on the air.
King suggested to The Hill that Huckabees plan was to get a lot of play for the ad without having to pay for it.
Doesnt he have any money? King said, laughing. Thats what Id have to do if I didnt have any money.
Huckabee drew laughter from a room full of reporters when he told them that he was going to show the ad he had just said he wasnt going to run.
The former governor said the ad cost $30,000 to make. It was a spothighly critical of former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romneys (R) record as governor.
King joined Thompson Monday afternoon at his campaign headquarters here, where the former senator stopped by to thank volunteers and supporters who were burning up the phone lines trying to reach undecided voters.
Thompson was asked about Huckabees unusual move, and he responded that he had been told about it on his campaign bus but that he knew little about it.
We all had a nice laugh, Thompson said. Hes on his own. I cant help him.
He added: Youre going to have to decipher that one for me later.
The Huckabee press conference turned out to be the big news event on a very cold New Years Eve just three days out from the caucuses.

To anyone who might be interested: Final Des Moines Register Iowa Poll numbers will be released at 9:00 P.M.
I’m interested. Are you planning on posting them?
Why should he stop now? He’s been pretending that he knows anything about ANYTHING for some time now, which is rather humorous. I can’t imagine FR without being able to laugh at Owen’s whacked out assessments of things while he shills for his fraud of a candidate.
I don’t think we can post stories from the Register, but I will keep an eye on it, and try to link it on appropriate threads.
**Thompson said he had a nice laugh **
Go Fred!
I believe Mitt is in the ‘Mitt Mobile’ now, and he’s not desperate for funds.
Ah, a habitual fabricator.
So what do you make of Mitt?
He’s on a bus too.
Mitt is desperate I guess.
Thank you. Just a link would be great.
You call it what it is, but in a classy way.
My prediction is that Romney and Edwards will win Iowa.
McCain will stop Romney in NH. Clinton will win NH.

Probably here I spose. After nine now but still no word.
I agree with your post. Like the Huckster or not , all eyes are on him , yet again .
But Fred's bus is bigger than Mitt's bus. Maybe Owen has a case of bus envy.
Iowa’s in the Central time zone, so it’ll be 10 PM here on the East coast before they post the poll results. About another hour...
Listen, I'm happy to explain it to you.
I'm a Baptist minister in case you haven't heard.
Sure, I'm a charlatan and a fake.
But Republican primary voters are fools as well.
and therein lies my ticket to the Promised Land.
lol. After I posted it I realized that.
darn timezones.
Thanks.
I’m working on my niceness.
