The number of Americans who consider themselves to be Republicans jumped nearly two percentage points in December to 34.2%. That’s the largest market share for the Republican brand in nearly two years, since January 2006 (see history from January 2004 to present).
At the same time, the number of Democrats fell to 36.3%. That’s down a point compared to a month ago. During 2007, the number of Democrats has ranged from a low of 35.9% in July to a high of 37.8% in February.

Dems changing parties to elect Republican non-threats to Hillary?
Does the percentage for the Dems include those who vote twice and/or are dead?
After we’ve been told and told and told of the HUGE swing to favor the Democrat Party.
Ron Paul is resuscitating Reagan Democrats, that’s why the numbers are going up and that is why the war booster network, Fox News is trying to shut him down.
(Hey, if extrapolating from two points favorable to your desired conclusion works for climate scientists and economists why can't I do it?)
In 2006, we kept hearing about Bush reaching new lows in approval. Notice the past 6 months, we hardly heard any news of that. Its because the Rodent Congress has worst approval ratings than Bush.
now if we can get every single one to the polls
I just don’t get the Ron Paul craze. I have met a few RP supported and they are all anti-war democrats. I have listed to RP talk and he reminds me more of Perot than Reagan. It is less his words than how he says them. I have no strong feelings for or against him, I just don’t get the craze. I don’t get the Huckabee or Thompson craze either.
However, I understand the Rudy craze. He is like the Macarena. Many people get hooked on a one hit wonder and then years later they can’t understand why.
To her credit, shortly before she died, my mother became a fanatical Republican.
If my parents, grandparents, and great grandparents were alive today, they would repudiate the Democrat Party and everything that it has become in no uncertain terms.
Ron Paul supporters are an electic bunch. Some are disgruntled conservatives upset over spending by the GOP Congress. Others are young voters who aligned with the Rodents in 2006 to force an immediate withdrawal from Iraq. Many of these young voters are disappointed with the Rodents. So they are backing Ron Paul. In other words, Ron Paul’s coalition consists of people disgruntled about something.
Good thing about this poll is that Republicans are always more likely to vote in elections than Dems
Dems attract the blocs least likely to vote: Blacks, Hispanics, young adults.
Probably the best news the GOP has had in awhile. Lets hope the GOP doesnt blow this by running a liberal for the WH
Anger over the war is subsiding, and people are coming to the realization that Nutty Nancy, Dingy Harry, and Queen Hillary! are not the answer.
I agree with you that I think a lot of these newbies in the Republican Party are Independent Democrats, who are probably supporting Ron Paul. There are probably a few that are pushing Paul to disrupt our party.
I do not think that they are registering because they are enthusiastically in sync with the direction the Republican Party is going, though.
I guess the other 29% of the people that aren’t included in the Democrat or Republican parties in this poll are Independent, or other. If the Republicans go any more to the left after the election, I will probably re-register as an Independent. I never went Independent before, in my state - Kentucky - you have to be dem or republican to vote in the May primary, but it’s become that by the time I can vote in the primary - my candidate has already been knocked out by the early primaries.
I don’t feel as though I have enough voice in the matter & I’m NOT happy with the direction we are heading. I’m thinking about going Independent if we don’t get a more conservative candidate to vote for than we got the last time.
and so much more enthusiastic!!
This isn’t “registration” — it’s just poll results. Granted, over a big span of time, and consistent methodology, they can be pretty accurate, but it has nothing to do with people going down to the courthouse and registering or re-registering by party (which only about 60% of the country has, anyway).
Apparently, it is only socially acceptable to subscribe to conspiracy theories to explain Ron Paul’s record breaking grass roots support. It is not, however, socially acceptable to consider, in spite of the historical evidence, that perhaps, the globalist, big government neo-cons are and have always been the problem and not the answer.
