If Mike had not shown the attack ad to the press, then this would not look like “cheap lawyer trick # 1”. However, I think the FreeRepublic.com should still invite the Capital Offense to play at an Inaugural Ball for President Fred D. Thompson!

If it comes down to Huckabee, I will be holding my nose tightly as I vote for him.

But I am going to do my part -- with the minimal amount of influence that I manage to have in this forum -- to sabotage Huckabee's ability to win the party nomination to begin with.

This is the part of the press conference that has about a snowball's chance in hell of being aired on Fox News.

There is a good reason for not airing the Huckster on Fox News.

Fox News is a news channel, not a comedy channel.

THanks for the clip. He is taking the high road because he would gain NOTHING going negative. Smart politics. He reminds me more and more of the Clintons every day.

” You think that maybe by having liberals as a counter point that it allows the conservative to refute their false rhetoric? “

No, not at all. The result is what sounds like a bunch of screaming idiots, none of whom you can hear because of the confluence of simultaneous voices.

Also, the interruptions by these liberals take away quality time from conservatives and forces them to elucidate upon complex issues in 20 second sound bytes.

If they want a liberal counterpoint, they can just use the liberal sound bytes available from C-Span or any of the other networks. That way we do not have to listen to the vexing interruptions of cretins like Bob Beckle or that scrawny twit with the white hair, squeaky voice and Brooklyn accent. I cannot remember his name but he sounds like Arnold Horshack (sp?)

Huckabee has surged because he won a couple of debates and he’s got evangelical support. If a quick rise can happen to the liberal pro-life evangelical Huckster, it can happen to the conservative pro-life evangelical Hunter.

.

.

.

According to Intrade, the winner of the December 12th GOP debate was... Duncan Hunter.

In this poll Hunter is up 3% and even with Paul and Thompson.

Hunter won’t even be on my primary ballot in February. It’s time for him to drop out and endorse Thompson.

"It appears to me that FNC has joined forces with the dark side>"

I noticed the trend more than a few years ago. They still seem "right wing" to some because they are sometimes more conservative, on occasion, than the far left msm, though they are definetly left of center.

I’m from Iowa and I’m with you. I just decided for the “Huckster” and I’m taking several more undecided’s with with me. I’ve had it with the orchestrated effort to discredit Huckabee from the so-called GOP elite. I chaired my congressional district for Reagan in ‘80 and know oppositional crap when I see it.

P.S. I agree with you about FOX. But I’m just as disgusted with all the O.J./Anna Nicole/Stacy/Britney/Paris baloney.

Many Arkansas Democrats like Mike Huckabee because he is a big-government politician and weakened the Arkansas GOP during his years in office. And many Republicans are fooled by Huckabee because he happens to be pro-life and pro-gun. But C.S. Lewis had politicians like Mike Huckabee figured out back in 1930, when he wrote:

"Of all tyrannies a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience. They may be more likely to go to Heaven yet at the same time likelier to make a Hell of earth. This very kindness stings with intolerable insult. To be “cured” against one’s will and cured of states which we may not regard as disease is to be put on a level of those who have not yet reached the age of reason or those who never will; to be classed with infants, imbeciles, and domestic animals."

Doesn't anyone remember Jimmy Carter? The GOP needs to wake up and regain its senses -- and rediscover its limited-government roots.

There was no high road taken here by not showing an ad that he paid to have made. It’s more likely a brilliant move for a cash stretched candidate. Baiting the press and it worked beautifully. Say you have a negative ad, then say you have decided against airing it, but then you give it to the press... Everyone is talking about it today. They are now showing the ad on Fox. For Free.

Thompson tops the list of most likely to drop out in January, per Intrade. Judging from momentum, Thompson is theone who won’t be on the ballot in February.

Dropouts from 2008 Presidential Race. Jan 2008
DROPOUT.JAN08.EDWARDS
John Edwards to drop out of 2008 Presidential race on/before 31 Jan 2008 M 35.0 49.0 35.0 15 -7.0

DROPOUT.JAN08.HUCKABEE
Mike Huckabee to drop out of 2008 Presidential race on/before 31 Jan 2008 M 10.1 29.8 14.9 27 0
DROPOUT.JAN08.OBAMA
Barack Obama to drop out of 2008 Presidential race on/before 31 Jan 2008 M - 10.0 5.0 10 0
DROPOUT.JAN08.CLINTON

DROPOUT.JAN08.GIULIANI

DROPOUT.JAN08.ROMNEY
Mitt Romney to drop out of 2008 Presidential race on/before 31 Jan 2008 M 8.0 25.0 6.0 20 0

DROPOUT.JAN08.PAUL
Ron Paul to drop out of 2008 Presidential race on/before 31 Jan 2008 M 10.0 15.0 15.0 24 +5.2

Here’s a snapshot from Intrade yesterday. There is evidence that Hunter is gaining ground in Iowa.

For the Iowa caucus, Thompson is at the bottom of the pack, Romney has regained the lead from Huckabee. Ron Paul and Hunter are both embedded together, so there’s no way of knowing if he’s gaining ground, but on the basis of the president.field contract moving, I’d say he’s probably at ~0.3 and Ron Paul is at ~4.8, which puts Hunter ahead of Thompson.

Caucus
REP.IOWA.HUCKABEE
Mike Huckabee to Win M 45.0 46.0 45.0 1690 +5.0
REP.IOWA.ROMNEY

I mean that Duncan Hunter lacked the funds and failed to FILE to be on the Arkansas GOP primary ballot.

Oh, ok. That definitely does not look good for Hunter. A shoestring budget gets in the way when you run out of string.

We’ll all find out in a few days with Iowa, NH, and the real battleground of South Carolina.

I think Hunter is a good man and is right on most issues. He’s failed to gain any real support outside of the internet and most of my conservative friends don’t even know who he is. What little support he does have needs to get behind Thompson, who is making a good push in Iowa right now, raised the funds to run TV there, and has built a grassroots network in SC and Florida. IMO, Hunter should throw his support behind Thompson since he’s the only two with a chance.

I’m not very familiar with your Intrade website, but the latest Iowa numbers show Thompson moving up and the word from the boots on the ground (including from Iowan FReepers) is that we may be surprised how well Fred does on Thursday night. It might be a long shot but it’s all the hope we conservatives have.

I think South Carolina may be a lot more important than many people presently believe. Fred Thompson has much stronger support there, and the Palmetto State might indicate whether Southern GOPers have begun to see though the Huckster.

***Based upon the Intrade results that I posted to you earlier, the opposite is true. So we need to just see how the cards fall, and see if the Iowans really do value what they say they value: authenticity.

I’m not very familiar with your Intrade website, but the latest Iowa numbers show Thompson moving up
***They must be Iowa numbers from somewhere other than Intrade, which shows Thompson moving down.

It might be a long shot but it’s all the hope we conservatives have.
***As long as we’re both going for “long shots”, I’ll stick to my guy, thank you. He’s a better conservative, he hasn’t squandered a 30 point lead at Intrade, he doesn’t nuance his pro-life position, he hasn’t upset the evangelical community, and even his detractors think he’s a great guy.

I’ve been seeing South Carolina as the battleground state for some time now. At one time it was a 4 way tie between Romney, Huckster, Thompson, McCain, and Giuliani coming in a few points behind him.

Significantly, Hunter came in a statistical dead heat with tootyfruityrudy on a straw poll in Spartanburg earlier this season. Hunter has strong grass roots support, and South Carolina is a good breeding ground for his economic patriotism message.
