Snopes is EXTREMELY liberal and always soft-peddles terrorism, so the grudging admission they make must''ve have really torqued them.

Not for me ..

Terrific. Just finished a K-cup of Caribou that came with the sample pack in the Keurig coffee maker we got for Christmas. Oh well. Great coffee maker, by the way.

From Caribou Coffee’s Web site:

http://www.cariboucoffee.com/aboutus/ownership.asp

“Arcapita, whose investors are located primarily in the Middle East , makes its investments in a manner consistent with the body of Islamic principles known as Shari’ah. Consequently, we operate our business in a manner consistent with Shari’ah principles and will continue to do so as long as Arcapita is a significant shareholder.”

“In particular, we must comply with Shari’ah principles regarding money that we borrow from other parties. For example, our lease financing arrangement, under which we have obtained financing to fund our operations and expand our business, is structured in a manner that complies with Shari’ah principles. The structure of this lease financing arrangement is described in the prospectus relating to our initial public offering. Also, a Shari’ah-compliant company is prohibited from dealing in the areas of alcohol, gambling, pornography, pork and pork-related products.”

Not concerned at all. Arabs were the first folks in the world to successfully improve the wild breeds of coffee and make them palatable.

It's THEIR STUFF.

If you are disturbed with Arabian involvement in the coffee industry you should probably turn to tea. I understand that all those folks are Buddhists and Hindus (except in Indonesia where they are Moslems).

BTW, no doubt the thread is really about the disreputable nature of the folks owning and marketing coffee through that company. There are others out there. Easy to switch.

Thanks for the heads up.

I've never had Caribou coffee (had never even heard of it.)

So now, I just won't.

Curious as to which businesses, doctors, etc are Islamic in your area? Just enter your zip code into Islamic Finder.

First Islamic Investment Bank

They could just call it 'I want to kill you Bank'. 'I lost a daughter in goat futures, but the esteemed ones help me recoup my losses in explosive material. I'm a customer for death.'

I don’t drink coffee, but if I did, I wouldn’t drink muzzie or moonbat Seattle varieties.

I’ve known this and mentioned it on several threads for years.

Too bad as the coffee is good, better than Starbucks.

Thanks for the links. They also market a "granola" bar like the Quaker Oats ones. I think the box mentions Islamic banking or Sharia law, because I decided not to buy the bars based on that info.

Many, can I say most??, banks at the international level, such as HSBC, have entire divisions devoted to Islamic banking. (One major issue is that money is not to be lent in order to earn interest. There's a whole procedure involved with the bank buying the property first, then calculating what to have the customer pay for it on non-interest installments.) I can't access the link right now, but Harvard has an Islamic Studies Center, with a huge on-line library of Islamic banking info.

Further, the Nestle's company has a unit responsible for compliance with halal food laws--to be able to market items in Indonesia, the world's largest Islamic nation.

I believe this is a fraud. Neither the Caribou Coffee website or the Arcapita website contain these pages. I don’t think that you want to trust this source; it looks like they have linked to bogus website pages.

Good coffee, good service and why fret about the ownership.

The Arabs have money and they are going to buy something.

In the meantime, they are majority owners of a business that can function both in Christendom and Islam without breaking anyone’s religious taboos.

Thanks for the post. A local store is selling that brand among others, and I’d have made the purchase when I run out.
