Huckabee pulls new TV ad slamming Romney but plays it for the press corps
Boston Herald ^ | December 31, 2007 (Last year! Wow!) | Jessica Van Sack

Mike Huckabee, vowing to commit to positive campaigning, announced he would not air a new attack ad slamming Mitt Romney for going negative but then promptly showed the TV ad anyway at a press conference - prompting loud cackles from the press corps.

Huckabee said he had a change of heart just before the press conference and shortly before the ad’s first scheduled airing at noon today in Iowa.

“This morning I ordered our staff to pull the ad. I told them I do not want it to be run,” the former Arkansas governor said. “If it is run at all it will only be until the stations can get it off the air and we are now committed from now to the rest of the caucus that we will run only the ads that talk about why I should be president and not why Mitt Romney should not.”

This is a devious, dirty trick, similar to the little-girl-picking-daisies ad that the most corrupt, immoral President we've ever had (including the Klintoons), Liberal B-----d Johnson, ran against Goldwater in 1964 "only once." (Yet the media ran it for him plenty of times.)

The entire point of doing this is to get the ad run, not have to pay the cost of doing so, and make The Huckster look like some sort of nobility in the process. Hardly the way a "Pastor" should act, but not surprising from this guy.

It's a devious, self-serving smear campaign and he doesn't even have to take responsibility for it. In fact, he makes himself seem noble for his smear. Veryu clever, but devious and dirty.

It reminds me of Jimmuh.......Carter in the 1980 primaries against Ted Kennedy reminding the media virtually every day that he "(didn't) think Chappaquiddick ought to be an issue." Of course, by repeatedly not talking about it, he kept it in everyone's mind, but he gave himself "plausible deniability" by saying he didn't think it ought to be an issue.

That's exactly what the Huckster is doing.

Of course that what the Huckster is doing. democrats were also incensed when Republicans said in the 60 election that “We will not make Kennedy’s Catholicism an issue”. Know anyone else like this?

He also tells us he has been elected many times in a place that usually elects democrats . I know what that means , but I really don’t think Huck does .

In related news, Huckabee has pulled ahead of Romney for the first time in a poll rating the candidates for “phoniness.”

Headline should read: “Huckabee exploits news services and gets campaign advertising for free”

Funny stry:

Tim Hall was a Democrat Representative from a Republican district in Illinois, a “Watergate baby” elected in teh wake of teh Watergate scandal.

His Republican opponent for his re-election campaign was pretty much low on money (maybe out), so one day his campaign staffers were just foolng around at HQ when tehy came up with an ad, which they had no money to run:

“Wilbur Mills: What was he relly doing in the Tidal Basin?
Wayne Hays: Kept Liz Ray on his payroll and she wasn’t typing.
Bertram Podell: Under indictment.
Fred Richmond: Under indictment.
Tim Hall: Running for re-election.”

They then sent the copy to Hall’s DC office, asking him to “correct any factual errors.” Hall booked the first flightback to his district, made sure the media gathered, and read the thing RIGHT INTO THE CAMERAS! And he kept complaining about “the vicious ad the Republicans are planning to run agianst me” and reading it to people.

of course, it got scads of attention and he looked bad when the Republicans never ran the ad. Hall wound up losing and became a one-term footnote like most of the “Watergate babies.”

Similar tactic as Bob Kerry’s endorsement of Hillary. Bring up Obama’s Hussein middle name and Muslim heritage... and throw your hands out and say “I can’t believe you took it that way! I was praising him!”

Huckabee knew exactly what he was doing. If he didn’t, he has no business even thinking of being President.

So Huckabee makes and airs a negative ad then shows the ad, then pulls the ad, then does a nearly 30 minute press conference praising himself on how good he is? Huckabee made it to his position because the mainstream media gave him a pass on his record for about a month. Now he claims that criticizing a candidate’s record is “losing your soul” and “enough is enough”

A dirty, disingenuous trick, just like H’s query on Mormonism and Jesus as brother of Satan.

Isn't th talso essentially what Joe (I Plagiarized My First Name) Biden said after he described Obama as "clean" and "articulate" as if that were unusual, given Obama's heritage?
