Huckabee pokes fun at Bush over reading reports
Quad-City Times ^

Posted on 01/01/2008 9:15:02 PM PST by Tossup

Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee defended his failure to read the National Intelligence Estimate on Iran in early December, joking in an interview Monday that President Bush didn’t read intelligence reports for four years.

Huckabee came under fire in early December when, in response to a reporter’s question about the Iran report, Huckabee said he wasn’t aware of it. Huckabee’s lack of familiarity with the National Intelligence Estimate — a report that showed Iran had discontinued its nuclear program — provided fuel for his critics who said he was a lightweight on foreign policy.

“The whole perception was based on an ambush question on the NIE report,” Huckabee said Monday. “From there, it was like, ‘Wow.’ That was released at

10 o’clock in the morning. At 5:30 in the afternoon, somebody says, ‘Have you read the report?’ Maybe I should’ve said, ‘Have you read the report?’ President Bush didn’t read it for four years; I don’t know why I should read it in four hours.”

His comment about President Bush appears to be a reference to allegations made by Bush’s critics that Bush didn’t pay close enough attention to intelligence reports, particularly in the early years of his presidency.

What a jerk. I am afraid that the quirky factions from both parties in Iowa will propel two monsters - Obama & Huckabee to be the eventual nominees.

Neither one of them has any sense of foreign policy and national security credentials. Both are peaniks. One is a pastor, the other is a mullah. What a great choice in general election!!!

I can't stand the sight of Mike Huckabee and a month ago I liked him!

I’m afraid he’s going to win Iowa. He was ahead in DMR and Zogby polls, was only slightly behind in CNN poll. More importantly, Zogby is a daily tracking poll, Romney’s 1 point plus is now becoming 4 points deficit.

Mark my words, much to our chagrin, two monsters - Obama and Huckabee will come out victoriously on Thursday night.

I share your concern . Zogby and the new DM Register look grim . If Iowa wants to secede from the Union it’s fine by me .

Elmer Gantry, Jr., is sounding more and more like the Democrat nominee.

The Huckester makes smart ass remarks to cover his ignorance.

Also, he is no more a pastor than my cat. He is not a graduate of a seminary. Spending a year or so in a bible school and learning how to speak does not qualify you as ordained clergy.

Having states such as Iowa in the beginning give the momentum to candidates is dangerous.

A low populated state, 94% white 3% Mexican & 2 % black.

The population of my County is more than this state.

Most of these folks are snug in a somewhat homogenous
society. Not understanding the problems of tens of thousands of illegals in their own city.

The powers that be in the DNC rejected Lieberman too but he still won despite their efforts. The weaker candidates are being pushed on us in the primaries but none of them have an genuine majority of support.

If this gaffe is any example, Huck won’t be using any script writers for his Leno appearance.

I’m getting pretty tired of Huckleberry, particularly his attacks on President Bush. He’s as slimy as bill clinton, but not nearly as cunning.

Somebody better put a bug in Huck’s ear and tell him to lay off the Bush-bashing .. it makes him sound like the liberal he is.
