so how much effect does this have on global warming? It could cause increased precipitation if it blew big enough.

Actually, it could have an effect if it puts up enough ash. The big Pinatubo eruption in Philipines (which closed our Subic bay base) clearly cooled the globe a few tenths of a degree for a year or so. Right afterwards, the "Warmers" were willing to bet that 4 years after would be warmer than the year after -- and they were certainly right -- but not from AGW -- from the light-reflecting nature of the dust thrown high up where it can take a year or two to settle out.
Tambora in 1816 caused the "year without a summer" in new England. Toba, 50,000 years ago, darn near wiped us (humans) out. Current theory is that we were reduced to a few 10s of thousands, causing an evolutionary bottleneck.
Contrary to another post, however, the actual heat from the magma release is a spit in the ocean in the global heat balance.

so how much effect does this have on global warming? I hear it put out a lot of CO2. In fact, it would only take 17.43 of these eruptions to equal Al Gore's monthly carbon footprint.
