Secret Huckabee Turns Out To Be Clintonesque

DES MOINES, Iowa — The former Arkansas governor in contention to win the Republican presidential caucuses here today, Mike Huckabee, is being mocked in some quarters as "the dope from Hope," but he can be downright wonky in a style reminiscent of another famous Arkansan, President Clinton.

At an event with Web loggers here this week, reporters spoke with a Huckabee strategist about the campaign's latest gaffe while the former governor launched into an off-the cuff, Clintonesque soliloquy about the education reform law known as No Child Left Behind, the benefits of music and art instruction, and even the structure of the human brain.

"Education is only a true education if we're developing both the left and right brain of the student," Mr. Huckabee told scores of bloggers listening in person and on the phone. "The left brain is great for math and science and all the logical forms of education, but knowing what to do with what a student has learned is as important as what they've learned. Music and art, teaching the stimulation of the creative side, is absolutely critical to a total well-rounded education."

As Mr. Clinton likely would have done, Mr. Huckabee went on to marshal numerous facts and anecdotes to advance his point.

Huckabee is for Amnesty for the 30 million illegals in the U.S. and their 100 million relatives back in the 3rd world (Chain Amnesty).

Huckabee hasn’t met a tax he doesn’t like.

Huckabee used to be a democrat and he has always been a liberal. He is a Republican in name only. Is he lying about his belief in God too? yes I think so because how many Marxists are there that are religious? Zero.

Huckabee has raised taxes and grew the government many times.

This Huckster Huckabee or Hillary Clinton would destroy America and the Republican party (100 million illegals would do it ).

Not to forget Huckabee is dim bulb on foreign policy, and I have yet to find a Republican candidate (except Paul) to make such embarrassing remarks.

Huckabee’s statements regarding the function of the human brain to not demonstrate any great understanding. This is grade-school level biology, and dimly remembered at that.

But I would agree with the contention that Huckabee is much like Bill Clinton. Very much like Bill Clinton. We do not need our own Bill Clinton in the Republican Party.

Bill Clinton drove me out of the Democrat Party. Mike Huckabee could drive me out of the Republican Party, if we choose to go down that road.

I am almost afraid to ask, but what do we know about Huckabee's wife? Is she another Hillary!-in-waiting?

I don’t know about the Huckster’s wife, but Huckabee’s son is a dog murderer and a dog torturer. Evil does seem to run in that family. Maybe there is something in the water in Hope Arkansas.

Huckabee is for the Fair Tax, and elimination of the income tax (16th amendment). This sounds like a much better step to me than what (most of the) others advocate.

No candidate is 100% in agreement with me on every issue, but I do not make a point of blasting every candidate that I don't favor.

I really appreciate your desire to tear down a fellow Republican. You really do a service to the Party.

..and before you say it; "He's not a REAL Republican", let's just wait and see the primary results. Is there any way we are going to come together as a Party, when we garner such bad blood now?

I intend to fully support the Republican nominee, whoever he is, but I would really appreciate if others didn't feel the need to constantly blast others' preferences. Save it for Hill O'edwards

Your hyperbole isn’t doing the anti-Huckabee forces any good. Never met a tax hike he didn’t like? NEVER? Lying about his belief in God? LYING? That’s really stretching.

Huckabee would be FAR better than Hillary. Most likely (my opinion) he’d be similar to Bush. He’s no conservative. He’d almost certainly continue to grow government, but he’s not evil incarnate.

RangerM: “Huckabee is for the Fair Tax, and elimination of the income tax (16th amendment).”

Oh please. So a governor with a proven record of raising taxes well in excess of the inflation rate now wants the Fair Tax and you believe it? There’s not a single, solitary bit of evidence (to my knowledge) to prove Huckabee is an anti-tax warrior.

I’m not going to claim Huckabee is an “anti-tax warrior”.

I’m also not going to allow my opinion of the man to depend on a one or two issues. Most peoples’ argument against Huckabee is taxes and immigration.

I don’t discount those issues at all, but I am not going to allow them to be the “make-or-break” point, as some have.

I have read both sides. Yes, Mike Huckabee raised taxes. I don’t know of a single State government that didn’t. I CAN say that Arkansas had a surplus at the end of Huck’s tenure. That shows fiscal constraint to me. Your thoughts?

All Mike Huckabee advocates on immigration is sealing the border, and a guest worker program similar (or identical) to President Bush’s. These seem more reasonable to me than trying to deport 15 million people, against their will, at once. The most logical approach to me is the State of Arizona approach. To my knowledge, Huckabee hasn’t expressed an opionion on that approach, but I can guarantee our democratic opponents would not endorse it.

I like most of the other candidates; I just have a favorite.

Just remember, you catch more flies with sugar, than with vinegar.

BULL!

He’s cut from the same cloth. The only difference is that he imitates a Christian with Scripture that is SELF SERVING.

He’s been listening to the NEA. :) That is one of the areas they really push in education. I like music & art in the schools but it really is an NEA agenda because the NCLB law has made it difficult to keep these things in the schools.

I especially liked his Clintonesque maneuver to not air a dirty ad and then call a press conference to view it and PROMOTE IT. It’s a cheap and hypocritical way of getting your message out. He’s a low down hypocrite and a desperate one at that.
