Thompson: Poor finish in Iowa won't end campaign
IowaPolitics.com ^ | January 2, 2008 10:36 PM | Greg Bump

GOP presidential hopeful Fred Thompson said in an in-studio interview with KCCI-TV in Des Moines that there is no truth to rumors that his campaign will fold before New Hampshire if he doesn't have a strong showing in Iowa.

"That is absolutely made up out of whole cloth," said the former U.S. Senator from Tennessee.

Thompson said a rival campaign was likely the source of that rumor.

"Can you imagine such a thing in politics?" he asked.

Thompson said his campaign is seeing a "surge" in interest right now, and said he has visited 50 communities in the Hawkeye State in the last couple weeks.

"I'm not going to play into any scenario that's not totally optimistic," he said.

Thompson touched on his plan for strengthening border security to prevent terrorist attacks, and his plan to simplify the tax code.

"Our tax code is a mess right now," he said.

There seems to be a lot of media headlines today:

"Fred denies that his race is over!"
"Thompson says he has no plans to drop out!"
"Embarassing finish in Iowa won't finish me, says Thompson"

Almost seems like the media is trying to tell the voters not to waste their vote. But ... the media wouldn't do that, would they?

I really, really like Fred.

However, if he doesn’t do well in Iowa, and he doesn’t do well in New Hampshire, then where IS he going to do well - and in a big way?

I say he drops out and endorses McCain within the next week. McCain then surges to the nom and the presidency.

South Carolina is Fred’s big test. If he wins there, he gains the momentum. The South is the GOP’s and Fred’s power base.

Reverse that scenario and then you’ve got it right.

No way. McCain will never get the Rep nomination no matter who endorses him and Fred won't endorse him in the primary.

McCain=amnesty=destruction of this country as we know it.

The (leftwing) media fears Fred.

If they understand Fred’s Federalism, they understand how much it threatens leftwing power, especially if he can educate the majority of the populace.

“I say he drops out and endorses McCain within the next week.”

Maybe Mitt Romney will drop out and endorse Fred. It’s a new rumor.
