Bush and his pin stripe buddies at the State Dept. will never let this happen.
They will side with the government of Iran.

There are millions of dollars frozen in US banks belonging to the government of te Sha. This has been a major sore point between the current government of Iran, and the U.S.A.
The US government cannot say that the Sha's government is responsible for the damages sustained, so will be loath to sanction the release of those funds to satisfy a judgement against the current government of Iran. However, if there are funds, frozen , which do indeed belong to the current government, then perhaps this judgement might be satisfied.
It will be interesting to see what happens.

Just wondering.

Friend of mine had an Iranian roommate. His father was a General. After Shah fell the new rulers got many of Iran’s military leaders together for a “meeting.” His father was there and had to leave the room to go to the bathroom. He heard machine gun fire coming from the room he just left and immediately escaped out the bathroom window. Everyone in the room was killed on orders from the Ayatollah. The family eventually made their way to America.
In the years that followed, the new government in Iran became known for their brutality, especially to anyone trained in the West. The Revolutionary Council published a “yearbook.” On one page would be a picture of an Iranian officer, usually their graduation picture in uniform from a Western or an Iranian service school. On the opposite page was a picture of that person’s execution. The books were well circulated throughout the Iranian exile community as people wanted to make sure those in the book weren’t their friends or relatives.

You are correct. The question is whether there is any money left after a lot of it was paid to the hostages and their families, as well as paying for the governments botched rescue attempts under Carter.

a half a billion dollars? Awards like this are a mockery of justice, that takes away any seriousness of a claim.

The fact that a purported “Religious Man” like the Ayatollah could order something like that is a horrible and makes him look just as bad a Joseph Stalin. I pity the souls of the people who followed that creed which condone murder like this. While Military people can be considered “paid targets” no way stuff like this should be allowed to happen.

How exactly is it that Iran can murder a US military officer and it is not an act of war?

A welcome measure. But based on past actions, I will bet that the Government will never let them collect a penny.

Actually, I would like to see that solution in some cases. Stealth, silence, and KABOOM! And back across the border before anyone knew what happened.
