Yup. I remember how an organization of psychiatrists (a very liberal profession, and generally a bunch of quacks in those days) issued a statement saying that Barry Goldwater was mentally unstable. The libs also assured everyone that Goldwater's election would bring war. Goldwater was defeated, and we got war all right--the no-win strategy of LBJ in Vietnam.
