Gov. Sarah Palin unveiled a new Alaska license plate Thursday, kicking off a year of promised fun leading up to the 50th anniversary of statehood.
It's simple and straightforward. No grizzly bears or totem poles like the 1976 and 1966 plates, considered the best ever by many. No tiny ant-like creatures strung along a mountain like the 1998 plate, considered dreadful by many.
It's got the Big Dipper, a small silhouette of snow-covered peaks, a gold background, blue letters and, at the bottom, the words "Celebrating statehood 1959-2009."

One more excuse to post a pic of America's most popular governor.
I've seen talk of her as VP.
Go to site for a bigger pic.
I got you something!!!
Is Alaska a Red or Blue State? Is she red or blue?
She’s cute. Love the caption too. I know I’m gettin’ old, but it’s 2008, right?
How thoughtful!
Sara ran as a Republican, acts like a Democrat.
Bigger govt, more taxes, more give-a-aways, pork for ‘her’ special interests and so on.
However, given what else was running, she was the least painful fro many to vote for - this time.
But, that’s just me.
I dunno, she seems way too chippy for someone who has dodge polar bears and endure -120 cold. Need more pics I guess...
Here's a pic of her in 1984. Yowza!
Sarah had my vote, my money and my support for Gov. In her first year she has been a huge disappointment. She has allied with the socialist dems here to raise taxes on oil, increased the size of government, and run off potential gas development in a way that would make any democrat proud. I am starting to think we would have been better off with Tony Knowles who would at least continued a sane effort to bring gas development here. At least we knew he was a socialist big gov type.
Not guilty!!!
The Gov also cut $250 million from the State budget.
TransCanada is the only proposal for North Slope gas left as of today.
Hee hee I sent this to Red on Friday!!! Just so he wouldn’t forget.
Now you know why I was saying it felt like Alaska in the green room!!!
Now I get it! Good one, lily! ;*)
Ah ha! Now it finally makes sense.
