New Spot: "Troops Support Ron Paul"
The Washington Post ^ | January 4, 2008; | Sarah Lovenheim

Posted on 01/05/2008 12:35:42 PM PST by Baladas

Republican Ron Paul is out with a new TV ad, set to run in New Hampshire through Tuesday's primary, stressing his military credentials.

Patriotic music booms. Soldiers salute. The announcer begins: "A proud military veteran who served our nation. Ron Paul salutes and supports our troops who protect and defend our freedom." A flag waves. The announcer continues, "But who do the troops support? Ron Paul. The record shows they're standing up for him." The ad concludes: "Ron Paul is their choice for commander-in-chief."

His campaign spokesman Jesse Benton said Paul "has long been a praised as staunch advocate for veterans' issues." Still, he "wants to bring the troops home from Iraq" because he would rather America "never again sends out brave soldiers to war unless doing so is necessary for our defense," according to Benton. Whether his anti-war message will appeal to New Hampshire veterans is hard to say.

An Air Force doctor.....please!

What's wrong with that?

What is it you find objectionable, the Air Force part or the doctor part?

I have to say, "WOW!". Eight figure campaign receipts for most of the candidates and we're suppose to get excited about military contributions to Ron Paul because he leads with just shy of $25K?!

I agree, WOW!! but apparently there is some question as to the validity of the donations. I haven't seen any proof, yet, just anecdotal consternation.

So, in the mean time, yes, you're right, it is an impressive endorsement for a campaign run by 7 computer hackers in some dark basement, texting online polls overtime, in between bong hits, being coached by Cindy Sheehan.

At every military site I’ve ever been to, the people there hate him. They’re McCain, Thompson, or Hunter supporters.

That's hilarious! How can Paul's campaign say this with a straight face?

Well, it's easy. Paul has always supported a strong national defense. Just ask Reagan.

Paul believes the Cold War was a mistake and the War on Terror is a mistake.

The Cold War comments were taken out of context and he said Iraq is a mistake, not the overall War on Terror. He supported going after bin Laden.

Paul says Vietnam is better off as a united communist country, and wishes the same for Korea.

Yes, it is. Vietnam is communist in name only. It is a very capitalistic nation in which the people enjoy broad freedoms. And the sooner we leave Korea, the sooner that nation can be united as well.

Ron Paul supports the troops, that's why he is holding rallies with the anti-war protesters outside Walter Reed hospital.

His official campaign didn't coordinate those rallies.

I took a poll at our last Walter Reed FReep. All veterans in our group (except for me) agree Ron Paul is a nut. I on the other hand would prefer Ron over the current POTUS. But I also prefer Hunter, Thompson, and Romney over Paul.

http://www.geocities.com/buford_p/FR/WRFreeps.html

Let’s save any disagreements over those choices for another day. I’d prefer to keep the discussion on this thread germane to the assertion that Paul is the “preferred” candidate by veterans.

Hellooooo! How about those photographs, huh?

What about them.

Cindy "It's the Joos" Sheehan ... 9/11 Truthers ... demonstrating outside Walter Reed.

Until you see official Paul for President campaign staffers hosting those rallies or attending them, get back to me.

I see.

So when the ad says, "Ron Paul salutes and supports our troops who protect and defend our freedom"--what does that mean?

Paul doesn't believe our troops our defending our freedom in Iraq. He doesn't believe our troops who died in Vietnam or Korea died for our freedom.

How can Paul claim that our troops defend our freedoms when he's on the record as saying so many troops have not?

The ad doesn't square with Paul's beliefs. It is supremely dishonest and a bit of disgraceful pandering.

as usual the Paul Campaign says not a word, and the Paulistinians see no wrong in their leader. You want it both ways, it seems.

These despicable excuses for Americans protest the war outside Walter Reed, and you excuse it with, "Until you see official Paul for President campaign staffers hosting those rallies or attending them, get back to me."

Yet when those same staffers accept money from admitted and well known white supremacists, you excuse it saying that the campaign didn't actively solicit the money, even though the evidence is exactly to the contrary.

Your inconsistency is pretty apparent, but then you are a Run Paul supporter.

Your unquestioning fealty to this disgusting man is pretty creepy and not a little frightening.

mnehrling, thanks for the ping. Glad to hear Vietnam is a free country.

And that Korea is on to reunification just like Vietnam. I'm sure they'll enjoy the reeducation camps as the Vietnamese did, though I suspect the ROKA may have something to say about that.

Why am I not surprised to be posting links refuting paulistinian nonsense last used during the Kerry campaign. Birds of a feather.

That's hilarious! How can Paul's campaign say this with a straight face? Paul believes the Cold War was a mistake and the War on Terror is a mistake. Paul says Vietnam is better off as a united communist country, and wishes the same for Korea. I guess Paul has his own meanings for words like "salute" and "support".

The war in Iraq was sold to us with false information. The area is more dangerous now than when we entered it. We destroyed a regime hated by our direct enemies, the jihadists, and created thousands of new recruits for them. This war has cost more than 3,000 American lives, thousands of seriously wounded, and hundreds of billions of dollars. We must have new leadership in the White House to ensure this never happens again.

Both Jefferson and Washington warned us about entangling ourselves in the affairs of other nations. Today, we have troops in 130 countries. We are spread so thin that we have too few troops defending America. And now, there are new calls for a draft of our young men and women.

We can continue to fund and fight no-win police actions around the globe, or we can refocus on securing America and bring the troops home. No war should ever be fought without a declaration of war voted upon by the Congress, as required by the Constitution.

Under no circumstances should the U.S. again go to war as the result of a resolution that comes from an unelected, foreign body, such as the United Nations.

Too often we give foreign aid and intervene on behalf of governments that are despised. Then, we become despised. Too often we have supported those who turn on us, like the Kosovars who aid Islamic terrorists, or the Afghan jihadists themselves, and their friend Osama bin Laden. We armed and trained them, and now we’re paying the price.

At the same time, we must not isolate ourselves. The generosity of the American people has been felt around the globe. Many have thanked God for it, in many languages. Let us have a strong America, conducting open trade, travel, communication, and diplomacy with other nations.

-Ron Paul

An Air Force doctor.....please!

Nothing wrong with being an Air Force doctor. However he was a draftee, after all. If you're to believe many sources, he enlisted in the national guard a couple years after discharge because they paid residents more.

Nothing wrong with being drafted, but he wears it on his sleeve a bit to prominently given the alternative. A bit too Kerryesque for my taste.

Military service and medical career

....The medical training was soon interrupted when he received a draft notice and entered the U.S. Air Force during the Cuban Missile Crisis.[28] He remained in the military during the early years of the Vietnam War.[29] He served active duty as a flight surgeon from 1963 to 1965, attending to the ear, nose, and throat problems of pilots in South Korea, Iran, Ethiopia, and Turkey, but was never sent to Vietnam. Based out of Kelly Air Force Base in San Antonio, Paul achieved the rank of captain[10][30] and obtained his private pilot's license.[16] The experience of performing physicals on helicopter pilot candidates, at a time when he saw many copters being shot down, deeply affected Paul; he later considered his indirect association with the Vietnam War as a catalyst for his rejection of interventionist foreign policy.[31]

Paul received a higher wage from the Air Force than during his initial residency, $700 per month;[32] he joked that he was "fantastically rich."[16] While in San Antonio, Paul also moonlighted three nights a week in a local church hospital's emergency room for $3 per hour, and became involved with Barry Goldwater's 1964 presidential campaign.[14] He then served in the Air National Guard while completing his residency (1965–1968), having switched to ob/gyn at the University of Pittsburgh.[33] His residency research into causes of pregnancy toxemia was subsequently published in the journal Obstetrics and Gynecology. He moved to Surfside Beach, Texas, on July 3, 1968, and eventually delivered more than 4,000 babies.[34]

It means exactly that.

I'm sorry that explanations over the Cold War or Vietnam couldn't fit into a 30-second ad.
