Fox Loses GOP Debate Support

The New Hampshire Republican Party dropped their affiliation with a Republican debate sponsored by Fox News tomorrow night because they have limited the number of candidates that can participate, according to a report in Boston.com.

“The first-in-the-nation New Hampshire primary serves a national purpose by giving all candidates an equal opportunity on a level playing field," said Republican chair Fergus Cullen. "Only in New Hampshire do lesser known, lesser funded underdogs have a fighting chance to establish themselves as national figures."

The Fox debate is excluding Texas Congressman Ron Paul even though he polls higher in New Hampshire and has raised significantly more money, and is campaigning more in New Hampshire than Fred Thompson who is invited.

"We look forward to presenting a substantive forum which will serve as the first program of its kind this election season," David Rhodes, vice president of Fox News, said in a statement.

I'm no Ron Paul supporter but Fox was wrong for this. This is suppression of Free Speech in it's rawest form. Anyone who supports Fox in this decision has no right to, ever again, slam the McCain/Feingold bill.

Don't be surprised if the Ron Paul supporters storm the auditorium and disrupt the Debate. I'd like to see it. I guarantee you I'd be pissed if they excluded Fred. SHAME ON YOU ROGER AILES AND FOX ! ! !

Dr. Paul has directed his supporters not to do so. He has bought his own air time in that hour anyway.

This, plus the fact that NH voters saw the other candidates giggling at Paul in the stupid debate, is going to help Paul.

Besides, Paul is always good for few laughs......especially when Fred rolls his eyes and giggles in the middle of his rants.

I think they should include all the candidates, even Keyes, who I didn’t know was running until he was in the Iowa debates with Schoolmarm.

The only people who can suppress free speech is the government, and the only people who are forbidden from doing so. Fox News, a broadcaster that only broadcasts on privately owned channels, is a private entity, welcome to invite whomever they choose to the debates.

You want to take issue with their decision on the grounds that you won’t watch it because of their exclusion, then do so. But making the connection to McCain/Feingold, or calling this a suppression of free speech is a leap of fantasy.

I agree. I will mail FOX NC for the inclusion of Hunter and Paul.

I like Hunter, (Fred supporter) and I like to watch the loony tunes of Paul.

Both will contribute to the debate and the audience tuning in.

Thanks. I just wrote to FoxNews urging them to allow all of the candidates to participate in the GOP debate. I think Paul is a complete nutjob and Hunter doesn’t have the name recognition this time around, but that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t have a forum. I also suggested that Fred Barnes quit referring to Fred Thompson as “dead man walking.” I like Barnes, but I’m afraid he’s on Rudy’s side and isn’t giving anyone else a chance, especially Thompson.

Third? He was third in Wyoming today. His total is 1, tying him for last place with Rudy. However, I think his third place showing in Wyoming should be enough to include him in the debate. I expect that FOX will take this out.
