NYT covers Muslim domestic violence in US
The American Thinker ^ | 06 jan 08 | Thomas Lifson

Neil MacFarquahar of the New York Times artfully navigates politically sensitive waters with an article on the problem of wife-beating among Muslims in the United States. The general question, simply put, is how to admit a pattern of outrageous behavior by designated victim groups, without provoking a serious reaction of outrage. So the reportage is artfully constructed to imply that solution as well as the problem lie within Islam, and non-Muslims have a minor role, if any, to play.

Thus, the article begins with insensitive Americans failing to accommodate the special needs of battered women who happen to be Muslim:

After enduring seven years of beatings from her husband, a young Yemeni-American woman recently fled to a local shelter, only to find that the heavy black head scarf she wore as an observant Muslim provoked disapproval.

The shelter brought in a hairdresser, whose services she accepted without any misgivings. But once her hair was styled, administrators urged her to throw off her veil, saying it symbolized the male oppression native to Islam that she wanted to escape.

This has forever been a deeply rooted problem in the black ‘community’ as well - possibly made more problematic by the ‘anti-snitching’ mentality. Maybe the NYT will get around to writing a story about that at well.

Al Jazeera recently featured an Imam who gave a detailed explanation about just when and how much a husband should beat his wife. It was a serious answer to a serious question.

Rather than taking her to a hair salon, wouldn’t it be more practical to take her to Guns-N-Stuff?

Remember, we’re talkin’ “liberal logic” here. A lib can find means by which our liberation of CO2 into the atmosphere causes a lack of sun spots. (Thus explaining the link between a lack of spots and earth warming.) As with science, so with “social science”... one of the ultimate oxymorons in existence.

Spain Sentences Imam for Book Offering Advice on Wife-Beating

By DALE FUCHS
Published: January 15, 2004
A Muslim spiritual leader who wrote a book telling Muslim men how to beat their wives was sentenced to 15 months in prison for encouraging violence against women, a court in Barcelona announced Wednesday.

In his 120-page book, ‘’Women in Islam,’’ Mohamed Kamal Mustafa, imam of the southern Spanish town of Fuengirola, urged husbands not to hit their wives on sensitive parts of the body or with force but, rather, ‘’on hands and feet, using a light rod so that the blows don’t leave scars or bruises,’’ according to the sentencing document, dated Monday and released Wednesday.

Dr. Yusuf Kavacki, head of the Richardson mosque, alternating between English and Arabic, told mourners that all living things are destined to die. Another imam talked about families being the most important thing in Islam and the need for parents to work to keep their families strong.

This from the islamic preachers at the Dallas TX funeral of the tweo sister slain by their father for being too American.
Mother and brother are in hiding.

...as the Times reports it, one of the biggest problems (as always) is the racism (in this case "Islamophobia") of ordinary Americans.

Really? I wonder why that might be. Perhaps because they killed 3000 innocent people in the US...they maim and kill their own people...they chop the heads off nuns...the shoot their own children in the back...they murder their own daughter because she had a date with a man...they want to overthrow the US Constitution and replace it with Sharia law...and they wonder why people don't trust them?

They deserve worse treatment than they're getting in this obsessively politically-correct country. And don't even try to give me this BS about "moderate" Muslims. If such an animal exists anywhere, they have yet to voice outrage at ANY of the heinous acts their compatriots have committed, and this is especially true for CAIR. Sorry, but if you look like a duck, quack like a duck, and walk like a duck, you probably are a duck even though you profess to be otherwise.

This reminds me of Ahmed Kobeisy, a physician who was (and perhaps still is) practicing in the Albany, NY area. He wrote a paper entitled “Shame in the Context of Illness: An Islamic Perspective” for the Yale Journal for Humanities in Medicine. The purpose of the paper was to explain why the shame of Muslim women must be taken into account when treating them for various medical problems.

He refused to consider the fact that Islam only exacerbates the natural discomfort experienced by all women during an examination. To him, the shame experienced by Muslim women was a good thing and to mess with it or not make special allowances for it was and is necessary.

The medical community has gone out of its way to make patients feel as comfortable as possible and should not be adding Islamic belief or law to its to do list as it only plays into and adds to the disenfranchisement of Muslim women and the so-called “superiority” of Muslim men.

Islam missed the boat on women and the idea that men and women are equal, but generally are destined for different roles, not because of internal weaknesses of the female, but because of the inherent strengths and compatibility of both genders.

I participate in a coalition between county and local tribal governments on DV. There are many cultural issues there as well. Some elected to positions of authority on tribal councils are DV offenders. Because of the inter-related close knit large extended family type of situation, it is very difficult to get people to come forward without creating factions supporting one side or another. Then there is the problem of everyone shutting up and not speaking out on what they have witnessed. Also, some of our tribes are a matriarchy and follow the lead of a senior female family elder. You have to identify and approach her for cooperation. All very complicated.

The same feminists who will eviscerate anyone who is Pro life don’t have the guts to say ANYTHING about this crap.

Proving that feminism teaches women to be gutless whiners.

here’s the deal: if you put a woman in a burkha, you’re already proclaiming that you think she’s less than human (or at least, a lesser animal than you are). Ditto for people who use words like “ho” and “beeotch;” who think that the epitomy of human achievement is to be a “pimp.”

Diversity in action!!

All religions are good!! They are just misunderstood. NOT. This is not rocket science and the answer is painfully obvious.
