Fred Thompson's education views deal with federalism, states rights and empowering parents to make decisions for their children -- not government.
The former Tennessee senator turned Law & Order district attorney turned Republican presidential candidate states on his Web site:
"Despite the tens of billions of dollars spent on education by Washington each year, and the hundreds of federal education programs now in place, our children are still falling behind, particularly in subjects crucial to success in the global economy in which we live."
Thompson's views of education policy usually include the words "too intrusive and too bureaucratic."
He supports the testing component of No Child Left Behind but the "associated federal mandates, however, have put significant administrative burdens on teachers and caused many States to lower testing standards."
Here's what Thompson said during a Fox News debate about the National Education Association, the parent organization of the Michigan Education Association school employees union: (video)

Too lazy to pander.< gg>
As a teacher - I KNOW that Fred is spot on here.
In the early days, the NEA got guidance from none other than Hillary’s hero - Saul Aulinsky - the patriarch of union thuggery.
The truth is a rarely exposed tribute during campaigns.
Go Fred!
It’s time for us to have a laid-back president who doesn’t feel the need to sign onto liberal legislation, and pander to the circus clowns. Go Fred!
Fred needs our support.
There is absolutely NO constitutional mandate for a Department of Education; no recognition of a right to literacy (regardless of degree); nothing...
Teachers’ unions, today, are interested only in their own survival, just like other labor unions in the US. They have no vested interest in the quality of education, or the consistency of the finished product. They’ve been successful in implmeenting a deranged leftist perspective on historical fact, and diluted the basics by means of ‘progressive’ approaches, which have been nothing more than failed experiments in child learning philosophies, and the sad impact has been on several generations of young people. Of course, we’ve also witnessed the diminution of the importance of parents in this effort, as well. The ongoing expansion of the socialist, nanny state has made great strides toward eliminating the parents as the prime directors in raising their offspring.
‘Tis a sad and sorry state at which we’ve arrived.
Time to reclaim our country, I’d say.
I love this guy!

Correct.
Keep them cleaned, lubed, and loaded.
BTW ... A little target practice helps too, but then you knew that. ;)
Love that line DManA! lol
What a breath of fresh air Fred is.
You may use it with or without attribution.
I like Fred but he was not impressive last night in the FOX debate. It was a shame Hunter as 3rd place finisher in Wyoming was not allowed on stage. We seem to be coming down to a choice between blows-with-the-wind Romney, already pigeonholed as a preacher Huckabee, restrict Americans speech and let in illegals McCain, and pro-homo and pro-abortion Guilianni.
I’m hoping none of these guys runs away with it and we get a reshuffle at the convention and a chance to pick a conservative that we can all get excited about. Maybe one of the conservative governors. Go McCain in New Hampshire. Pull out all the stops in S. Carolina Thompson!
So Far:
Romney, Mitt 15 delegates (Iowa and Wyoming)
Huckabee, Mike 13 delegates from Iowa
Thompson, Fred Dalton 13 (Iowa and Wyoming)
McCain, John S. 5 (Iowa) with a NH win likely.
Paul, Ron 4 (Iowa)
Giuliani, Rudolph W. 1 (Iowa)
Duncan Hunter 1 (Wyoming)
Fred too if his people read this.
Fred has to have a strong showing in the South...let’s hope he doen’t get hurt to bad by the Huckster....
I show the following totals:
(some of the delegates have declared early)
Romney 26
Huckabee 20
Thompson 6
McCain 3
Paul 2
Hunter 1
Giuliani 1
It’s not federalism when the feds are funding it. You don’t get to make the decisions unless you pay for it yourself.
Source? Especially for that “some of the delegates have declared early” concept. I thought the Republican Convention still required voting to take place before delegates could be committed.
I’d love to see a real conservative in a race with Osama Obama. He’d clean the floor with him. Fred Thompson is the man to do it.
” Fred has to have a strong showing in the South...lets hope he doent get hurt to bad by the Huckster....” and Romney’s dirty tricks of gutter politics..
