I suspect it's a bright flash. You're dead before the muzzle report arrives.
By not doing so, we are only going to embolden them all the more.
Thew Iranians have been killing our boys in Iraq...blatantly. I know of no time in our history when such provocations during out and out war, in theater, either would have been or should have been taken laying down. It is far past time for serious pay back.
They should have been bracketed bow and stern just so they’d be sure we had missed on purpose.
I have a hunch that we are soon going to regret not blowing those Iranians out of the water.
And of course there is the NY Times....
LA Times reports in :
Iranians harassed U.S. ships, Navy confirms
Harasses...doesn't describe it for me....more like "deliberate aggressive exploration"...

Last week, Khamenei, the country's ultimate military and political authority, spoke in his Friday sermon of the possibility of one day normalizing relations with Washington, though he said now was not the time for a diplomatic breakthrough.
Analysts in the region said the easing of international tensions plays against hard-line President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, whose backers face a stiff challenge from reformist and moderates in upcoming parliamentary elections. One analyst and military expert said the timing of the incident may indicate that some in Iran's political and military establishment don't want an end to the tensions between Iran and the U.S.
"If the news is correct, it means some faction inside the country wants to make the water murky and create tension at the expense of the detente between U.S. and Iran at this juncture," said Davoud Hermidas Bavand, a Tehran political scientist. "The NIE and IAEA reports provided the window for reducing tension. But it seems some factions do not want it, which is very dangerous now. It's playing with fire."
Tick...Tick...Tick...
It really is a shame the test could not have proceeded a bit further. Afterward the gunnery mates could have practiced on the floating debris.
We all would have felt better about it!
Absolutely.
AMEN!!!!
"QUICKDRAW!"
This was a classic probe, and we flunked. Dropping boxes from a patrol boat in front of our destroyers was a classic hostile action, needing nothing further on the CO’s part to open fire independent of higher authority.
They’re softening us up.
Next time they make it to 150 yards, then 100 yards.
We need to make an example of them to prevent another USS Cole in the future. imo
The Captain has a responsibilty the not only his crew, but to US citizens who paid for that ship.
You’d think after the Cole, this would have never been tolerated again. Make me wonder.
I would have put down a line of steel at 700 yards, with no second warning.
When the British still had an empire if you approached one of their ships without permission one would get wiped out.
They didn’t suffer fools the way the US does today.
"Hey Ahmed? Let's start a war with the number one military power on the planet!"

The best part of smart-bombing Iran will be how the turbans unroll as they blow sky high — it’s like t-p’ing the ruins of the mosques of the mullahcracy in one easy step.
