Limbaugh, Other Conservatives, Slam Huckabee

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee won the first Republican primary of the 2008 election last week, but many top conservatives are not happy, with some calling him a "christian socialist" and others a "Republican Jimmy Carter."

Disagree...Huck’s Liberal track record is comparable to Romney’s.

As Rush says, Conservatism wins every time its tried.

This is a simplistic myth. There are more factors at play in politics than simply a set of principles. This platitude cannot be supported with any historical evidence, and for Rush to repeat this tired mantra in this particular election year, and for people to buy into it unquestioningly....well, it is a recipe for November disaster.

WE must remember that Traditionalists, Christians, Evangelicals and pro-lifers make up the backbone of the Republican Party. Without them, we lose in November.

If fiscally conservative and socially liberal or socially moderate voters in the Republican Party have a problem with Huckabee - and won't show up to vote - then they can let Hillary or Obama win and see what they get.

The reverse is also true. Fiscal conservatives are also the backbone of the party, and if socially conservative voters have a problem with the Republican nominee and stay home, then they can let Hillary or Obama win and see what they get.

It works both ways. Asking a pro-lifer to back Rudy is no more ridiculous than asking a fiscal conservative to support Huckabee.

If you want an example, go back to 2006. The Republicans didn't lose because they weren't pro-life enough.

I’m tired of the apologist posts from the Huckabites. He’s not a conservative - support him if you want, but don’t expect the rest of us to let you redefine conservatism to fit your whim. His lack of undersatnding of constitutional and international law makes him dangerous. His lack of understanding of foreign affairs makes him dangerous. His past positions on governmental fiscal issues make him dangerous.

And if you think that Governor Huckabee can win a November election on a national scale you are sadly mistaken. You will not get the ‘broken glass’ wing of the GOP to show up for a candidate who is not up to the job of being CinC. Nor will they show up for a populist who ‘feels their pain’ and tells jokes instead of answering questions.

BTW, there are those who are socially conservative as well as fiscally conservative who have been ripping Fred as being boring and needing to get it in gear.

[He basically slammed Huckelberry and Mclame - RUSH is right!]

He is hesitant (and rightly so) to endorse Thompson. He has all but done so by stating that Fred is the closest thing to a Reagan conservative. He will do so in the next 2-3 weeks!

I’d like to hear someone ask the Republican candidates if they would put American sovereignty over global warming hysteria-related agreements or treaties.

I have a feeling only 1-2 candidates are going to answer the way I want them to.

Here ye hear ye... thats the opinion of my court as well!

If we lose more sovereignty.. NOTHING else will matter anyway.

Question about the NH Primary:

The independents can chose to either vote Republican or democrat. Once they have made their choice in this primary, are they now locked into voting for that parties choice in the general election in Nov.?

Socially conservative Republicans? Like me? I can’t stand the sight of the Huckster. He oozes that oily charm, and it makes me want to puke on my shoes! Here he is during the debate, lying to Mitt’s face about the surge. And here he is a few months ago, saying the exact opposite. All in one convenient link. What he said then and what he says now. What a flat out liar this Huckster is!!

Huckabee is a looser. Fred Thompson can win but he needs support to get there.

In numerical terms (sheer numbers), Christians, traditionalists, pro-lifers, etc, outnumber the fiscal conservatives/social liberals in the Republican Party...so they get first choice.

The fiscal conservatives/social liberals can go along or whine, not vote, and let fiscal liberals/social liberals like HIllary and Obama win.

That’s how it works.

social conservatism isn’t based upon the single issue of abortion. If it was then you might be right about Huckabee. Unfortunately for you and the rest of the Hucksters it isn’t and you aren’t.

No, you don’t coronate anybody, but you don’t rip a social conservative

He's Pro Life...great so am I BUT he's also:
1. A tax increaser(he even did it for the chil'run)
2. Pro illegal alien
3. Soft on Crime and criminals
4. A typical Arkansas Goveror when it comes to personal ethics

And on top of all he had the audacity to state at a Republican debate that he was running to make the government work!!! He was at the wrong debate, plain and simple.

You don’t know what ‘slamming’ is. Rush is just talking about the pros and cons of candidates. Listen to how he goes after the Dems. Listen to some of the fake funny Paul Shanklin ads they run against some of the Dems. THAT is Rush slamming someone. Pointing out genuine concerns or issues with a candidate is not ‘slamming’.

Further, do you really want to put up the candidate the Dems are DYING to run against? It’s like all of us here hoping Hillary is the one because she’s got 50% negatives and is incredibly vulnerable on her past.

You don’t think they’ve got the ammo ready to go? There are real issues here that are not fabricated. Can that person survive a whole year of attack? They won’t be able to debate policy, they’ll be too busy dealing with scandals and it’ll be about them personally. Alinsky method just begging to be implemmented here.

Fred Thompson needs to get it in gear though, or it will end up being Mitt or Huckabee.

The way he can get it in gear is by getting his message out. The only way to do this is via money. Will you contribute?
