Giuliani -- scandals, baggage, and lack of social conservatism credentials will keep many conservatives and others from voting for him in the general election.
McCain -- McCain-FEingold, opposition to Bush tax cuts, and his amnesty bill -- nuff said.
Ron Paul -- Most Repu8blicans probably wouldn't show up to vote for him, as he does not poll well among most Republicans, and has been lambasted by the other Republican candidates as a political freak, which would be used against him in the general election.
Mitt Romney -- THe Republican candidates have blasted him as being basically a flip-flopper and one who will change his positions at a whim.
Fred Thompson -- I Like him, but will he even come close to winning N.H, Michigan, South Carolina or Florida? Not likely. Maybe S.C. And what if Thompson continues to be cast as boring and barely awake during speeches and debates by arch conservatives like Fred Barnes and others?
What if all we have left is one (Huckabee) who is socially conservative and fiscally moderate compared to Hillary and Obama? He is charismatic and young and can match Obama on this. He isn't even half as bad on illegal immigration as Obama or Hillary.
Should we cut off our nose to spite our face?
Is Rush putting fiscal conservatism before social conservatism? Is Mitt Romney's record (while he was governor) one that is pure social conservatism?
WE must remember that Traditionalists, Christians, Evangelicals and pro-lifers make up the backbone of the Republican Party. Without them, we lose in November.
If fiscally conservative and socially liberal or socially moderate voters in the Republican Party have a problem with Huckabee - and won't show up to vote - then they can let Hillary or Obama win and see what they get.
What say you?
I listened to RUSH today.
He basically slammed Huckelberry and Mclame - RUSH is right!
Soo.....Conservatives like Rush Limbaugh should simply coronate anybody who wins Iowa and STFU forever after, in the name of getting somebody/anybody elected?
Uh, L-fc, the choice isn’t between Huckabee or Hillary. It’s Huckabee or Fred, or Mitt, or Rudy.
if Huck wins the nomination I really doubt he’ll win the general. Nobody wants a First Pastor with nanny state proclivities. it will be very bad
It ain’t over after one lousy primary. The Republicans in Iowa don’t get to select the nominee all by themselves. I believe it has something to do with a delegate count? ;-)
You go Rush. Thank goodness for someone with the intestinal fortitude to speak out. The liberal media is gushing over both Huck and McLame.
Fred is the only one worthy of sending money to. Romney is OK. The rest I would vote for with a paper bag over my head.
As Rush says, Conservatism wins every time its tried.
Ted Kennedy would be more preferable than Hillary as well. He's funnier. Maybe he could run against Huckabaloo. You know, just in case...
The whole Thompson schtick about him being boring and barely awake is getting pretty laughable in the face of watching McCain do the NH debates.
It’s getting pretty treadworn, and the MSM and those such as Fred Barnes who keep using it are starting to look like one trick, stumble-bumbling hacks mumbling and grumbling to crickets in the dusty crypt.
After looking at the candidates in the debate, Thompson is by far looking like the least flawed.
This socially and fiscally right-wing evangelical Christian conservative does NOT want to vote for Huck. I origianlly thought I liked him, but the more I have read about him and the policies he signed his name to in Arkansas, the more I have decided he is NOT the candidate for me.
Huckabee cannot beat the Dems.
How about Duncan Hunter? He’s a true conservative and a true Republican. He’s not a fake, a phony, or a fraud. Like the Huckster is...
if the sHuckster cannot make it through the primaries he wasn’t meant to be. let HIM tough it out and prove himself capable........quit whining.
I believe that I was the first to refer to Huckabee in public, right here on FR.
If I wasn't the "first," I was certainly the first non-talk show host or other "public figure."
Right. I am a Traditionalist, Christian, Evangelical, Pro-life Conservative.
Huckabee is Traditionalist, Christian, Evangelical, and Pro-life -- but he is not a Conservative. Despite his good intentions, Huckabee is a nanny-stater who sees government as the solution to every problem. If elected, he will destroy the Conservative movement just as surely as he destroyed the Arkansas Republican Party. During his two terms as governor, Huckabee turned Arkansas from solid red to the only blue state in the South. No thank you!
Honey you might as well vote for a democrat if you vote Huckabee. He is just as liberal and lies even more. I will probably for the first time since 1972 vote dem for president, as they will surely make it only 4 years, and
_____it would be hard to get rid of huck at the 4 year mark.___________________________________________
(I don’t think he will be obama).
Since when has Fred Barnes been an arch conservative?
