At War with Mexico

It’s an issue that will dominate the elections in 2008. It is illegal immigration, but there was scarce attention paid during the debates leading up to the Iowa caucuses. The candidate that promises to put a stop to it will be the candidate who wins. The party that temporizes will be the party that fails.

The conflict in Iraq has siphoned the energy to pay attention to Mexico, but as that battlefront recedes, the eyes of voters will be on our southern border. A war is being fought there. Some may argue that no such war has been authorized or declared, but a full-scale invasion has been taking place for years, resulting in an estimated one tenth of all Mexicans presently living in the United States.

Interesting. I just posted this on a thread about McCain. I think it’s relevant here too:

You know what though? Every time I hear McCain is a strong national defense candidate, I think of his enthusiastic support of our southern border invasion and the shamnesty he wants to offer the invaders and I think no, he’s not a strong defense candidate. He’s as weak as they come.

McCain and Huck are the Mexican Candidates.

I thought that it was Romney's family that immigrated from Mexico.

At War with Mexico

That's the good news. The bad news is that our federal government seems to be on their side.

Yes, that is true. Mitt’s dad was born in Chihuahua, Mexico. You want nachos with that?

For there to be a war, there needs to be two parties at odds with each other. The US leadership of both parties have determined tht there will be no opposition to the invasion from the South.

No one currently with a chance to be elected will do anything other than window dressing as a SOP to those few of us who are concerned.

No nachos for me, thanks. I quit eating Mexican food years ago. Mexican restaurants are the number one sponsor of illegals coming into this country.

If you really want to do something about illegal immigrants, don't buy the nachos.

If Mitt's dad, George Romney, was born in Mexico, how in the world could he have run for President as a person ineligible to serve if elected?

If he was born in Mexico of parents who were U.S. citizens he is still a native born-U.S. citizen (like my two kids who were born in Japan because I was stationed there in the military).

I beleive that this may be true today, but only because of a law passed in the eighties.
