MULTI-NATIONAL FORCE-IRAQ UPDATE: Coalition forces positively identify terrorist killed in operation Dec. 25 BAGHDAD, Iraq – A terrorist killed during an operation Dec. 25 has been positively identified as Haydar al-Afri. Haydar al-Afri, also known as Imad Abd al-Karim, was a senior al-Qaeda in Iraq leader for the western region of Mosul, and a close associate of several terrorist senior leaders in northern Iraq. Haydar was involved in facilitating resources and planning attacks against Iraqi and Coalition forces. Haydar was killed during a Coalition forces operation in Mosul Dec. 25 (see MNF-I press release A071225a, “Coalition forces target terrorist facilitators, suicide bombers; 13 killed, 27 detained,” dated Dec. 25, 2007). During the operation, Coalition forces were engaged on two separate occasions by armed men as they attempted to clear target buildings in the area. The men charged at the Coalition forces’ position, and the ground force engaged the enemy, killing four terrorists. As the ground force continued to clear the area, they were engaged by machine gun fire and grenades from underneath one of the structures. Responding in self-defense, Coalition forces returned fire and called for supporting aircraft to engage. Once enemy fire ceased, the ground force assessed that an additional five terrorists were killed during the engagement. A total of nine terrorists were killed during the operation, including Haydar. Haydar started out as an al-Qaeda in Iraq fighter and later assumed leadership positions in terrorist networks in various Mosul neighborhoods. He began leading the Islamic State of Iraq army in west Mosul after its previous leader detonated his suicide vest during a Coalition forces operation. Haydar was closely associated with numerous al-Qaeda in Iraq senior leaders operating in the region, to include one detained Dec. 13 for his involvement in the Mosul network and his ties to the terrorist senior leader of northern Iraq (see MNF-I press release A071213a, “Coalition forces target foreign terrorist facilitators, 11 detained,” dated Dec. 13, 2007). “This was a dangerous terrorist who is no longer part of the al-Qaeda in Iraq network,” said Maj. Winfield Danielson, MNF-I spokesman. “We will continue to relentlessly pursue terrorist leaders who try to deny the Iraqi people a future of their choice.” - 30 - FOR MORE INFORMATION, PLEASE CONTACT THE MNF-I PRESS DESK at: This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .

What a nice way to start the day.
A happy ending! On Christmas, too!
Nice Christmas present for the troops.
Living the love.
Impossible. Al-Qaeda isn’t in Iraq. (/sarcasm)

“the ground force assessed that an additional five terrorists were killed during the engagement.”
Translation: Indentifiable separate body parts from at least five additional terrs were found.
A stuffed Christmas goose, it appears.
Looks like Rudolph’s radar nose was right on target. A Xmas gift for a goon. Wonder how he likes sitting on a bed of hot coals, wondering where he went wrong in his faith.
True, true.
Excellent! More, more, more...
Typical conversation:
"How are things going over there?"
"It's much better these days. Quieter, safer and reconstruction is finally accelerating as a result."
"Better?"
"Better as in the terrorists are backing off. Well, those who haven't been killed or arrested are, anyway."
"Well, I haven't heard about any of this on the news."
"Have you heard anything about Iraq on the news lately?"
"Well...uh...not really."
"Think about that." (Smile.)
Imagine how the owner of say Time Ragazine or CEO of ABC Pravda must feel as GWB goes to the ME, with cards up his sleeves.
You're all going to die. Every one of you. It's a shame, in fact, that we are not the barbarians you paint us as, for it reminds us that we are better than you, and limits us from dealing out what you deserve. Sadly, all we are allowed to do to you is kill you. But that's going very well, thanks.
