I guess the dims ignore the fact that every fraudulent vote disenfranchises someone who votes for the opposition.

There is nothing in the Constitution that gives citizens the right to vote for the POTUS...

At issue is whether state laws designed to stem voter fraud would disenfranchise large numbers of Americans who might lack proper identification -- many of them elderly, poor or minority voters.

Why can't they just get an ID? They are free.

How do those "elderly, poor, or minority" people buy smokes, booze, cough medicine, cash checks, drive cars, etc. etc.

I would like to see someone actually look into how one would function in today's society/economy without any form of ID.

Pray tell, where can you REGISTER to vote without a photo ID?

Upon turning 18, I registered to vote in Indiana by mail.

I gather that the problem is a bit of a catch-22. You can't get an ID without a birth certificate, but you can't get a birth certificate without photo ID.

A conservative majority of the Supreme Court appeared ready Wednesday to support an Indiana law requiring voters to show photo identification, despite concerns that it could deprive thousands of people of their right to vote.

"Show me one person this has affected"

And the crickets chirped...

How do those “elderly, poor:....register for their Social Security checks???

Didn’t they have to identify themselves to start collecting benefits?

Virginia has an ID law, although no photo is required. It doesn’t bother me, but in reality voter fraud doesn’t happen at the point when a person walks up to vote. It happens through ballot box stuffing, tinkering with the machines, and absentee ballots. Voter IDs don’t do a thing to prevent those.

Voting is not a right. It's a privilege. You have to meet the requirements in order to acquire that privilege. Personally, I don't think an ID requirement goes far enough. I'd like to see biometrics established as the requirement.

Interesting...

Chief Justice John Roberts, himself an Indiana native, took issue with assertions that the reasons given for passing the law in the first place had little factual basis.

“If somebody wins an election by 500,000 votes, you may not be terribly worried if some percentage were cast by fraud, but you might look to the future and realize there could be a closer election and ... because it’s fraud, it’s hard to detect,” he said.

Justice Stephen Breyer echoed those sentiments, saying cases of dead, double and vacant-lot voters in past elections went beyond mere “urban legends.”

Roberts also pointed out the state provides free photo IDs to anyone who requests one to vote. “They (the state) help you get it,” he said tartly. “If you don’t have a photo ID, come in and we’ll give you one.”

Let me see if I have this correct:

According to the dims we can’t forbid the dead and non-citizens from voting or other citizens from voting twice but we can forbid law-abiding citizens from owning guns?

Hmmmmm.

“well, she’s old and stuck in her ways, but I figure with ALL the grandkids being Republican, it sort of cancels her out. :D”

My Mom is also in her 80’s, doesn’t drive anymore, and tended to vote Dem.

I always drove her to the polls where half the time she would cancel out my Republican vote.

She did vote against all tax increases and against any rabidly anti-gun Rats.

I guess it was worth it. She did get a photo ID when she quit driving ( except for her golf cart).

What a stupid argument! It is not hard to get a driver's license. Are they saying that minorities, poor, and elderly don't know how to get a driver's license? It is not hard to sign up for other government programs, but suddenly, it's too hard to sign up for this?

Amazingly ignorant argument.

The SCOTUS would be pretty anachronistic if they did not uphold reasonable measures to prevent identity theft — especially when it comes to someone voting in our place.
