I think Fred went after the wrong candidate.

I think Fred made the correct long-game strategic move. Fred is trying to make the primary about conservatism and demonstrate that he is the conservative choice. That is the only way Fred will win.

Even the MSM gets things right now and then. It is true...Fred came across as a cranky old man with a grudge against Mike because he is beating him in the ballot booths. All Fred accomplished by attacking Mike was to shore up Mike’s supporters.

Thompson well place third (if that) in South Carolina. McCain might actually be first instead of Mike. Either way McCain and Huckabee will be the first & second (I’m not sure which will be first).

Thompson should have been selling Thompson all this time and not listened to radicals here on FR. He could have been a great president, but blew it....and blew it even more tonight.

In the first place... it's the wrong question, and should never have been a question.
Actually, even though it has a name to it : ( REAGAN COALITION ) is a misnomer.... the reason why it will never die is ? because : what was it called before Reagan ? ( CONSERVATIVE PRINCIBLES ) that Reagan believed in and had strong convictions.
The question that should have been asked is ? do you think conservative principles are dead ? and I say NO WAY !!
What has happened is that liberals have infiltrated ( by planning and scamming ) to water down conservatism in the Republican Party, that is what has happen, and is happening.
But, Fred effectively tonight had the banner passed to him from Reagan... and Fred had effectively said,, NO WAY that conservatism is dead, but still alive and well.

That may sound like BS to you but it is a viable reason for voters nonetheless. Voters want their vote to make a difference. They not only want their vote to count for their candidate, but they also want it to have an impact on other candidates they strongly dislike. When Fred Thompson is at anywhere from 1% to 10% or 12%, and you want to beat a Giuliani or some other candidate, I'm sorry. To a lot of voters, that feels like a wasted or at least ineffective vote.

If you are truly disappointed in Fred, especially after tonight’s “poor” performance, and if you really, really wanted him to be our choice, my advice to you is to spend the next 10 months getting it out of your system. Just some alone time, for you to heal.

I've always liked Fred Thompson. Heck, I was frustrated as all get-out that a guy like him didn't run for president back in 96. Even if I ignored your jeering style, why would I want to debate a record and stance on the issues that I happen to agree with?

Incidentally, he didn't get in too early. He got in too late and has made some poor campaign choices. That's not my personal opinion. That's a fact reflected by the polls and the primary results.

I had to correct some of my family and friends on that, I told them to STOP listening to the MSM.. and I would advise you to get your news from the ground from the campaign.
Of course the MSM has a agenda,,, to torpedo Fred's campaign because the supreme court justice is a stake and in no way are they going to let ROE vs Wade to be overturned.
The demons for abortion are angry, and are going to try to stop Fred from being President of the USA and appoint judges to the high court and over turn ROE vs WADE.
I can't put in more frank and blunt terms as that.. and Fred ( or Duncan Hunter ) can and will be dependable to appoint the kind of judges like Roberts or Alito.
Yes, some say that Huck is Pro-Life, but ? why then ? are most Pro-life ORGS endorsing Fred ? yes, Huck is Pro-life, but, the rest of his record is plan liberal and socialist.
We got a chance to elect a consistent conservative in Fred, and if it were Duncan Hunter at the top, I would have voted for him.
Many cried about Fred not having the " Fire in his belly " and won't vote for him because of that, and now that he has shown some " Fire in the belly " he is getting flack for being a cranky old man.
Please ? give Fred some slack here... he has ran a clean and honest campaign, he's not in it for personal gain, or personal ambition.. he wants to serve you and me as President of the USA.....he's not your run of the mill average politician, please ? at least you can give him some credit on that.
