Foreclosure help tough when you lie Wednesday, January 9 at 4:32 PM
Last week, a woman called me and asked me for the number of the Colorado Foreclosure Hotline. I told her 1-877-601-HOPE. She told me she wanted the number for her neighbor, not herself. Sure, I thought. She then asked me if there were any counselors who spoke Spanish at the hotline, as her neighbors don't speak much English. I assured her there are bilingual counselors at the hotline. I immediately felt bad about doubting her story. I told her that her neighbors should tell the counselors the truth, even if it is painful. For example, once a distressed homeowner started the conversation with me by telling me he had never missed a mortgage payment. But now is wife is sick and he is on a permanent disability and they were strugling to make their payments. Twenty minutes into our conversation, he revealed that he had missed the last three mortgage payments. I reminded him of what he first told me. "Oh, I meant I had never missed a payment, except for those three," he said. I relayed a short version of that story to the woman who wants to help her neighbor. There was a pregnant pause, and then she told me what really was the crux of her call. The couple next door had given a false Social Security number to the lender on their mortgage application. She said although they are hard-working, good citizens, she thinks they are in this country illegally. They are understandably worried that their fraud will be discovered and there would be no help for them. .

Crazy stuff.
Ive wondered on occasion now that the son is an adult, what negative impact its had on him
Not nearly as much as 18 formative years with such parents
You got that right, last I heard he had been arrested for grand theft auto...in the real world, not the game.
I have been getting calls from collection agencies for some woman who had my telephone number five years ago, maybe longer. I am so tired of it that I have been losing my temper with the debt collectors. I told them that I would not answer their questions until they give me a call back number, then I told them that I was going to report them to the state attorney general. They promised not to call again, but it they would stop giving credit to illegals, they wouldn’t have so much trouble tracking them down.
These idiots made Mexico a chaotic pit and are busy making chaos and disorder here. Thank Jorge Bush for these idiotic border policies
The Feds still haven’t computerized the visa system so we know visits and never goes home. This should be computerized with scannable thumb or fingerprints on the visa card. No one gives a sh!t in DC. They are fat and happy
Like this is new?
copy and paste: Mortgages for illegals ...On google under WEB
Are they "allowed" to do this? I thought that immigrants rights groups sue to forbid checking SSNs. For anything, employment, banking etc.
Not likely since the bank itself would be the seller...at a loss.
All in all, this might be a good thing.
Most of FR has been trying to get people to listen to the logic that breaking the law to get in leads to breaking the law while here, leads to someone else paying the price.
It's kind of nice to think it's the very financial structure that facilitates money transfers (for profit) that will also be stung by foreclosures caused by their shoddy loan policies (profits).
and now Bank of Illegals is buying Countrywide.
Standard practice by any lender is to pull their credit. There are 3 credit reporting agencies and if the SSN doesn’t match the credit report and verifiable drivers license, that should be a red flag.
If the lender proceeds with a fraudulent SSN, then they are guilty of wire fraud and RICO laws. I see some lenders and loan officers going to jail.
A lot of folks somewheres been a lyin' like the devil on this greenback orgy.
