LANSING, Mich. Mitt Romney, in what may prove an unfortunate choice of words, has taken to referring to Michigan as "ground zero" ..
<snip>
.. many including not a few in the Romney campaign also believe this state could be the ground zero where his 2008 presidential hopes are reduced to rubble.

I see the Gang of 14 Mitt bashers is still alive and well. Amazing how you guys feed off one another.
I agree.
Mitt is a long way from being the ideal candidate but may be the only one with a realistic chance of wresting the nomination from McCain AND winning in November.
If McCain is nominated look for a replay of the 1996 election.
Either Hillary or Obama would beat McCain like a $2.00 mule.
Running McCain against Hillary or Obama is like running Bob Dole against Bill Clinton in ‘96 with the exception that Bob Dole is a Republican.

I've been stuck with McCain as my senior senator for the past 18 years. Mark Levin is correct...McCain is the anti-conservative in the republican primaries. I'll take Mitt any day over McQueeg.
No-
Wow - the Romney haters have all crawled out from under their rocks tonight.

Yeah, what you said.
It would be more appropriate for those behind Romney at this point in the race to think about quitting....and that includes all of them!
Winners don’t quit.
That was done in a funny manner....give it up!
These are the correct delegate numbers.
Romney also has 6 super delegates.
Delegate count for all the states through New Hampshire so far is:
Romney: 30
Huckabee: 21
McCain: 10
Thompson: 6
Paul: 2
Hunter: 1
Guiliani: 1
Magic Number 1,191
I don’t believe in the sub-prime problem. I didn’t use them, and I didn’t loan any. That is between two private parties and is no business of the government.
I wish politicians, Republicans and Democrats would tend to the poor performance, lousy laws, high costs. An even easer way to reform would be to get the government out of our transactions amongst each other. A conservative would do that. Reagan led a boom in privatization. Mitt, even though I know he knew it was wrong, expanded government in Massachusetts. He is basically pandering the same line in Michigan.
Anyways, politically I don’t trust him. Further, other than going along with the democrats, I believe he is politically incompetent, and would be a disaster to Republicans.
I’ve been stuck with Mittens for 15 years. It’s even.
Yeah, you might be right. Mittens might get tired of seeing his money go to consultants and pull out sooner.
“Ground Zero” is a troublesome phrase these days. It used to mean simply the center of impact. Now, in the minds of many, it means a specific point in lower Manhattan. So folks who are accustomed to using “Ground Zero” in a generic sense now find that, in the minds of many, they’re comparing whatever they’re talking about to the attacks of 9/11/01.
A similar phrase is “D-Day.” It used to be a generic term — a military action would occur at D-Day, H-Hour. These terms were used in communications because it would be, frankly, stupid to use the specific date and time in any comms that might be intercepted. But to most folks. “D-Day” refers to June 6, 1944.
To older folks, “D-Day” could mean any decision point, not just Normandy. To less-older folks — and I include myself — “Ground Zero” could mean any point of impact, not just the WTC site. But these are classic cases where what you say is not necessarily what others hear. That’s the minefield politicians walk.
I was working in a newsroom when Hurricane Katrina came ashore. One of our reporters referred to the area where the storm was expected to make landfall as “Ground Zero.” We got hundreds of e-mails in a matter of minutes from people who were indignant that we were, to their minds, comparing the storm to the 9/11 attacks.
Why not?
It was Romney that planted that false story to "The Politico" on the day of the Iowa Caucus that Thompson was quitting the race.
It was the sleaziest of sleaze by Romney. Thompson told a reporter it cost him at least 3% in Iowa.
The Clinton's could learn some great sleaze from Romney's book.
Got any proof of that? I didn't think so. If you actually read the Politico piece, you would see that it cited those in Thompson's campaign making the claim. It went further to speculate that Thompson would then endorse McCain.
I can appreciate fervor for your candidate, but it doesn't mean you have to lie about soneone elses.
