If McCain can win NY on Super Duper Tuesday, he'll be steamrolling to the nomination, if he can stay competitive in other states. Those 101 winner-take-all delegates are very significant.
Republican Primary in New York: McCain Fights to Unravel Giuliani "Big State" Strategy -- In a Republican Primary today in Rudolph Giuliani's home state of New York, 01/11/08, 25 days to the 02/05/08 vote, Giuliani is in a tight fight with John McCain, according to a SurveyUSA poll conducted for 7 New York state media outlets. Among all Republican Primary voters, it's Giuliani 32%, McCain 29%, within the survey's 4.6% margin of sampling error. Mike Huckabee is 3rd at 12%, Mitt Romney, Fred Thompson and Ron Paul are further back. Giuliani leads by 11 points in New York City and leads by 5 points in the NYC suburbs. McCain leads by 4 points Upstate. Giuliani leads by 17 points among voters voters age 49 and younger. McCain leads by 12 among voters age 50+. McCain leads by 9 among Moderates. Giuliani leads by 6 among Conservatives. Huckabee gets 18% among Conservatives, 18% among Pro-Life voters. Republicans who think the Economy is the most important issue back McCain 33% to 28%. Those who say Terrorism is most important back Giuliani 40% to 26%.Filtering: 2,800 New York state adults were interviewed 01/09/08 through 01/10/08. Of them, 2,477 were registered to vote. Of them, 471 were identified by SurveyUSA as likely to vote in the Republican Primary. The New York Primary is "closed," which means that, unlike Iowa and New Hampshire where Independents could be included, only registered Republicans may vote. Interviews were conducted before the South Carolina Republican candidate debate, which began at 9 pm ET on 01/10/08. Giuliani was Mayor of New York City from 1994 to 2001. New York is his home state.
Doesn't New York know Rudy best???
He is barely competitive in his own state??? Wow.
If I had to choose one of the current front-runners for the nomination who’s not named Fred, it would be John McCain.
He is the one I dislike the least.
Rudy's incredible drop in the polls in his very own home state, the state where he is known best, the state where virtually EVERYONE is familiar with his positions and his leadership, the state where he flaunts his leadership,,,,is absolutely astounding!!
Who gives a flying fig?
South Carolina is days away and New York is next month. Bring up the subject when it’s relevant.
(Not you, the media...)
I am biased about this. As many here know, I do not believe in polls at all. They are to easily manipulated, fabricated, or just plain wrong.
The only poll we should believe is the actual vote. of course, even then, with vote fraud as rampant as it is on the left side, even that poll could be questioned.
Rudy would be best served to drop out before 2/5 and endorse McCain. McCain would owe him big time. Rudy has significant enough support to tip the scales for McCain in many states, since the candidate field would still be crowded and the winner of most all states will only have to achieve a plurality.
I agree. A liberal like Rudy would never endorse the most conservative candidate, Fred-—so McCain might be liberal enough for him to endorse.
I’m not a McCain fan, but if he can knock Rudy out of the race in New York, he’ll get some points from me for that.
Looks like it may be shaping up to be a McCain-Huckabee race.
Exactly. I was so surprised when the polls said McCain would win and Romney would come in second place in the GOP New Hampshire Primary and somehow Howard Baker won...
There was no polling fiasco in NH, except on the Democrat side.
“If McCain can win NY on Super Duper Tuesday, he’ll be steamrolling to the nomination, if he can stay competitive in other states.”
Steamrolling to the nomination? I just don’t think that’s going to happen. The voters who stopped amnesty last fall will never vote for Mr. Amnesty, aka McPain. I don’t care how much lipstick CNN and the rest of the MSM slathers on this pig. A pig is still a pig (and a RINO is still a RINO).
No contest.
So, there was no polling fiasco before there was one??
Look, you can believe polls if you like. I don't.
I think polls, like news stories, like liberals crossing over and voting in Republican primaries, are attempts at manipulation of Republicans. And those attempts are succeeding.
Why is discussion of Florida results (SurveyUSA Election Poll #13166 at http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1952585/posts) supposed to be mingled with this thread (SurveyUSA Election Poll #13164)?!? Seems confusing to me.
At the same time, another thread on SurveyUSA Election Poll #13164 is left open...???

The Florida results are posted (a href="http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1952585/posts">(http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1952585/posts), but the thread was locked and redirected here.
Previous polls had taken place for Florida (and even New York, Pennsylvania, etc.), back before Iowa and New Hampshire. I don't know why Florida was locked this time around on FR.
Doesn’t New York know Rudy best???
This is no surprise; keep in mind that the People’s Republic of New York have given the nation such political stalwarts as Chuck Schumer, Hillary, Bloomberg,Spitzer, Charley Rangel et al.
I’m not sure either.
New York has no business having any say in who the GOP nominee is.
