Would you trust someone pedaling a 30% sales tax as a 23% sales tax?

30% to start with, with no cap.

“with no cap”

True enough. But, the Income Tax started out at something like 1%, didn’t it?
Regardless of the form of the taxation, if we (the people) allow it to rise to onerous levels, that would be our fault. Our fault for not holding accountable our elected officials to represent us within the confines of the US Constitution.
The FT, at least, puts the tax on the consumption side, over which we have some measure of control.

Reminds me of the bumper-stickers in the 70's usually seen on VW's -- I'm "peddling" as fast as I can.

I always wondered if they were traveling salesmen? Just didn't make sense otherwise.

For the first time, we agree.

The tax system could be fixed by making it two tiered and eliminating withholding. Everybody writes the government an actual check for their tax burden every year. We'll see how much everyone wants "free" stuff from the government when it makes their check to the government even larger.
