Hillary Clinton lashed out at the Obama campaign today, saying that her rival was "deliberately distorting" comments she made about the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King.
But today, Obama shot back that his campaign had nothing to do with Clinton's "ill-advised remark." And he unloaded some frustraton on Clinton for distorting his record.
"I didn't make the statement," Obama said in a conference call with reporters during which Missouri Sen. Claire McCaskill endorsed the Illinois senator. "The notion that it's our doing is ridiculous."
Clinton sparked the controversy last week when she told Fox News: Dr. King's dream began to be realized when President Lyndon Johnson passed the Civil Rights Act of 1964, when he was able to get through Congress something that President Kennedy was hopeful to do, the president before had not even tried, but it took a president to get it done.
Some interpreted those remarks as undermining Kings contribution.
But on NBC's "Meet the Press" program this morning, Clinton took aim at Obama.
This is, you know, a, a an unfortunate story line that the Obama campaign has pushed very successfully, she said. Theyve been putting out talking points. Theyve been making this theyve been telling people, in a very selective way, what the facts are."
Obama called that another example of "why people are tired of Washington politicians and the games they play."
He said Clinton distorted his early opposition to the war in Iraq and belittled the importance of ethics legislation he helped pass last year.
Clinton, Obama said, began the campaign wanting to make history as the nation's first woman chief executive. Now, he said, she's been spending a lot of time rewriting history.
Scuzbuckets, both of them.
“I’m the heir to Martin Luther King, and you’re a liar!”
“No, I’M the heir to Martin Luther King, and YOU’RE a liar!”
“Is so!”
“Is not!”
And this is relevant to the crucial issues facing our country...how?
I actually hope they keep it up with this petty crapola and get more people turned off to them.
WEll, it depends in what the definition of "made" is is is...
What a pile of trailer trash.
Aaaaargh.
It’s Duck season...
Rabbit Season.
Blacks had a right to be offended; Hill was clearly implying that it took an old white guy to do what that naive simpleton black guy (King) could only dream about. Its the theme of her campaign — elect the “experienced” one.
Oh shut up! If an untrue comment can damage someone, Hillary wouldn't hesitate to participate. Look at Reid's letter she signed accusing Limbaugh of criticizing the troops. She's such a joke!
If Hillary loses the black vote, she is toast.
“This is, you know, a, a an unfortunate story line that the Obama campaign has pushed very successfully,
(because it’s true?)
(About her own staff)she said. Theyve been putting out talking points. Theyve been making this theyve been telling people, in a very selective way, what the facts are.”
It is the theme of the white liberal elite. The black leaders of the "race industry" are corrupt partners in this world view: "Individuals do not have to, in fact they cannot, take care of themselves. That is the job of government."
Not that he is any different, but Obama appears to be complicating the arrangement.
Hey African Americans...aren't you tired of the elitist Dems using you for votes all these years?
This is great news. I hope Obama is backed into a corner by Clinton so that there is less likelihood of him accepting the VP slot when Clinton wins the nomination.
Anyone catch any of Obamas’ Nevada/union speech?
Now he’s beginning to expose himself.
..And his Mephisto act was sounding a little strained...>;)
This is like having to root for Golem or Saruman.
