Anti-war group aborts demonstration plans in Little Havana
Sun-Sentinel ^ | January 12, 2008 | Ruth Morris

Peace activists in pink dresses and tiaras demanded the arrest of anti-communist militant Luis Posada Carriles Saturday, but aborted plans for a demonstration in Little Havana after Carriles supporters rushed their vehicle.

The six activists, of the Codepink anti-war group, had planned to speak to reporters outside the landmark Versailles restaurant to publicize their campaign against Carriles-- a former CIA operative wanted in Venezuela in connection with the 1976 bombing of a Cuban airliner.

However they were met by some 200 irate Cuban-Americans who consider Carriles a champion of freedom. Some ran at the activists' truck as they arrived, tearing off its pink fringe, while others shouted sexist slurs.

"We're not in Cuba. We're supposed to have free speech," said Medea Benjamin, one of the group's founders. "This is indicative of how a small group of Cuban-Americans are holding the rest of the community hostage."

Carriles supporters sprinted through surrounding streets looking for Benjamin's truck while bystanders shouted "prostitutes" at her group. They eventually decided to meet with press in the parking lot of a downtown police precinct three miles away.

Benjamin said the group would stick with plans to distribute postcards in Miami Beach and other parts of the city, asking the FBI to Posada Carriles on its most wanted list.

"He's a known terrorist. This man should be behind bars," she said. "We feel our government should be consistent. We go looking for terrorists all over the world."

I meet Cubans in Miami South Beach. Forget about it. They are not on your side. Cuba is better left to Fidel.
And that is a personal opinion.

Medea Benjamin should be behind bars for treason.

Opinion is not fact, as i’m quite familiar with Miami as well . South Beach might be one thing , but Miami is a sizable town with many factions .

There is a reason that the community gets heavily courted by Conservative right-wing leaders and groups ....

Let me say I hate Code Pink and think they are a bunch of marxist scum. Howeer, I don’t think attacking them is the right thing to do - they will just get milage from it in the MSM.

Good thing it isn’t Paul supporters harassing Sean Hannity or calling a town clerk who didn’t double check election results and posted a 0 tally incorrectly for a candidate, garnering angry calls....

or there would be people showing up on this thread calling them brownshirts and saying that their behavior is shameful.

See this thread

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1953046/posts

I pinged the people from that thread who most condemned the behavior. I’m sure they’ll come here and be consistent and do the right thing.

For some reason I suspect they’ll just show up and make excuses and try to paint it as different.

Remove me from your ping list immediately. I did not ask to be on your ping list. I do not support your candidate Ron Paul, nor the thug tactics of Ronulans.

Calling Medea Benjamin and her group "prostitutes" is hardly an attack. Tearing the pink fringe from her truck would be deemed an act of public decorating justice by many Miami citizens.

Your post makes no sense .

Let me ask you this . Are you saying that all of the Cubans who were flooding the streets, with joy , when they heard mere rumors of Castro’s demise , are pro-Communist ?

Remember this was reported by all media , even the Leftist MSM .

Yeah they love Castro and Leftism ... </s

It’s not a ping list.

I did ping you because I mentioned your behavior on another thread.

Since you condemned similar behavior on other threads, I thought I’d give you the opportunity to do it here, too.

Instead, you flinched.

I’m an American of Cuban descent. I have no idea what you are talking about. I live down here in Miami too. Cuban-Americans love and adore this country. Many of us and fought and died for this country. We heavily voted for Ronaldus Magnus and were one of the reasons Bush beat Gore in Florida in 2000.

Yep, you won’t find a more Patriotic community of Americans .

The Cuban community tilted Florida for Bush , as the panhandle being an hour behind , went home after Florida was called for Algore . If the panhandle had completely voted , Bush would have had a sizable and indisputable win .
